We grow indoor up north, 30-50 below zero.
Whoa, now that is chilly. I'm from Wisconsin and have rarely experience those temperature. YIKES. Did not mean to offend. Infected seeds... never heard of that. Where does the egg come from? Inside the seed?

From where I stand I am forced to believe that the egg was placed into the pod while the seed was forming.

Oh man, that sucked, what a ride. I haven't had to deal with mites in forever, and put my trust in the wrong clone vendor. Well, this round of blackberry kush clones was an extra bitch to procure. The Blackberry Kush is an auto flower strain that is also clone only. This means its hella hard to find, IMO. Even harder to find cuts that are not flowering already.

Auto clones? how big do they get?

try a product called mite-rid it is concentrated azidactrin i think 96% doesnt take much. but the seceret to all bugs is by alternating the killing agents you use and be prepared for a fight. I also do a monthley sulfer burn on my veg and mothers for peace of mind haven't had bugs for over a year know oh i also quit getting clones from an outside source. Make my own and also use seed stock for new strains.

My lawyer advised I keep my plant count and square footage down by shutting down the veg room. Playing by the rules is not always easy.

I keep them under 24 hours light, and they will veg as long as I choose. But any dark whatsoever, and they flip.
cool beans do you know any other strains of auto like that? my afghan kush ryder flowerd under 24, it be nice to have a auto strain to keep around

i haven't done any auto genetics yet, but i have to admit that strain sounds interesting, that could be a very desirable trait

Eff you spider mites!!! Just when i thought i had won, you come back in an explosion! Dead!!!!! Eff it! The whole garden ready to flip to 12/12 pulled. Eff it! Next up some jack herer, and you better believe they are getting quarantined this time around. Eff the organics and eff the veganics. These bitches are getting 85 degrees and sprayed the eff with some pyrethrin for a month, then i'll relax. I cant deal with this bullshite! Argh! 12 effing years and i still cant stop the effing super mites without burning the shite out of my plants. Effing supermites!!!! The only way to kill them is to kill your plants. Rize out

damn, this had been an uplifting thread
sorry for the bad news, but this is still a help to others
does show how nasty a pest this is, i do seem to have gotten them out of my grow area by plant removal and a physical scrub down

yeah. i slacked off cause I thought id won and was just doing mild neem treatments. these mites eat the neem like it is food to them. argh. oh well. i'm in it for the long run, and pretty much have to motto that if i can't handle it in veg then i have to restart. i DO smoke my own so it really matters to me. peace all

Co2.

If you have a sealed environment, (or one you can seal up temporarily) get yourself a tank of Co2, seal your room and bomb it with that. if you can keep the co2 levels high enough, youll deprive the bugs of o2 and they will sufficate. it works.
a few things:
its easier to do with a cloner (smaller tent, easier to maintain high levels)
do it with lights off, i know i know, plants and lights off co2.. take some bad with the good
if you use dirt, do a soil drenching in the proccess to flush them outta hiding.

clean the shit out of the room (of course)
and do it again 1.5-2.5 days later.

organic and clean

nothing lives without o2 ;)

Thanks cerb. I do have a sealed room and CO2, and I thought about that. The thing is I would have to do that repeatedly to get the successive generations. And my room is not that small ;)

The other thing is they were full size and in flower. The room was kinda packed. I think the mites were lurking, and when I turned the temps up from 70 to 80 they exploded. I would have fought to keep them if my blackberry kush wasnt being a bitch and autoflowering on me. Ditching the kush, back to sativa hybrids.

I have found that a high label rate of stylet oil and a good spreader (at low label rates) like R-11 can have great success against these buggers. Its all about coverage with hort oils, and there is no chance of resistance buildup over generations like there is with pyrethrins. They cannot survive being smothered just like we can't.

It is best to apply this material just before the lights go out, and make sure you have good air circulation. I also usually throw in some Serenade anytime I have to make a foliar spray, because I am paranoid about grey mold. Just remember that you CANNOT use sulfur at least 2 weeks before and after the stylet oil, or bye bye plants!

Has anyone had success with predatory mites like Galendromus occidentalis, Mesoseiulus longipes, Neoseiulus fallacis or Neoseiulus californicus? I have used them pretty successfully in vineyards, but have never tried in a closed system. M. longipipes looks like it may be the best choice for indoor grows. Worth a try!
