No friggen way i mean maybe if you have an air cooled hood yeah but can you hold on to your hps for oh well ever and not burn yourself if they produced the same heat maybe you should try to put your hps like 2 inches from your plants????

sorry biggravy but you will always always get people who tell you things like this some people just don't believe in the power of cfls
you dont get it... show us a cfl that puts out 20000 lumens and grab ahold of it... nope

read this

More lumens please

"Fluorescent lighting is a very efficient way to light a large space like an office building. For growing, however, it isn't the best option, as it isn't very intense for the amount of power it sucks up. A fluorescent bulb at 40 watts will only put out about 3,000 lumens. And even with many bulbs in use, fluorescent lighting isn't the right choice for the later stages of growth."

not only that but lumens dont add up so you want a bulb with high lumens,, not multiple bulbs with low lumens,, thats just dumb

and this is coming from a guy who uses cfl... but only for my fragile seedlings... and sometimes i use it in combination with my HPS

and btw,, if i dont have a cooling fan on the ballast of my 45w cfl it gets hot to the touch, and it is mounted right on the bulb,, i like how you can externally mount the ballast for HPS... oh, and when those cfls die on you (which they will b4 any HPS will) you are not suposed to throw those bulbs in the garbage,, it is bad for the environment and you need to take it directly to you local dump to be disposed of properly.. seems like a pain in the ass to me

If your going with cfls you should try a scrog, you dont need the light penetration, seems ideal

lumen per lumen, hps and cfl produce the same heat, go hps, they have the penetration you need.
LOL no for people like me we cant get a hps coz it will set everything on fire and theres no Fucking Way Cfl produce more heat than a hps .even a 70w hps is hot as fuck lol WTF

i dunno why people persist in arguing CFL this vs HPS that... the facts are pretty straight forward.

cfls are really good for small, first or stealth grows that have limited space/ventilation/expense. upstart with cfls is pretty simple, and if used right can still produce some pretty stellar bud.

hps are better for any grow thats not limited by space/ventilation/expense. the buds are generally bigger and thicker, more wt is produced. they out perform cfls in general.

both light types have they place, both work great for what they do when used correctly

lets just all grow some buds eh?

"lets not bicker and argue over who killed who"

WTF all im saying theres no way a cfl produces more heat than a hps no way

WTF all im saying theres no way a cfl produces more heat than a hps no way
and the only reason that is true is because you cant buy cfls that put out the lumens a HPS can... you can go ahead and say that all you want but untill you find a cfl putting out 20000 lumens and grab ahold of the ballast and tell me its not hot i dont believe it... i know how hot my 45 watters get and i couldnt imagine a 250 watt cfl and how fucking hot it would be.... the only difference between the heat in hps and the heat in cfls is that you spread your heat all about the room with numerous bulbs where as a hps all the heat is concentrated in one location,, making you believe its hotter

LOL im not saying Cfls are better than a hps lol noob shut up im saying a hps are alot hotter then any Cfls

Envirolites are becoming a more and more popular alternative to HID lighting. They are effective, energy saving, reliable

Like a 30w clf has 2000 Lumen intensity (so it cant penetrate the bud deep enough thats why you get reli small buds)
125w Envirolite cfl 12000 Lumen intensity (Envirolites can penetrate bud ok still not great but still with more light it will)
a 400w hps has around 55000 Lumen intensity (hps will penetrate bud great up to 10 ft away)

and in watts is not all great but i use a hps now so wtf (125w x 3 = 375w)

LOL i laff at any noob who says a cfl is hotter than a hps bulb WTF you can hold 250w cfl
lol put you hand near a hps bulb

I dont think that you understand, you can still touch the ballast and the bulb and leave your hand there all day and you wont get burned next time your hps is fired up go and grab hold of it about 6 hours into your light cycle and let us all know your results..... thanks!!!!

I have a 1000w hps and besides the actual bulb itself I can touch everything and not get burned:hump:

LOL so if your theory is right you can put a hps in my box (30incx15x14) without burning any plants as my cfls do lol and have 3 bulbs
1 x125w
2 x85w
which i know theres no way in hell that could happen it will burn any thing i put in there

i think we all know they are better for flowering but it all depends on your needs, yes we all need big buds but we all dont want torched plants
