Damn this shit is expensive as, OMG!!! I went to Home Depot today since my 30 year old brother who is still in the basement at moms house still hasn't done one thing. I've decided on PVC instead of wood for a couple of reasons, 1) easy to set up and take down, & it will be reusable if I decide to go to another place in a year & 2)cleanliness. I've also decided on the ebb & flow also for a couple of reason 1)cleanliness 2)I don't have to haul all that dirt in/out of the house 3)the clones I'm getting are all water babies, & I heard you can't switch it up. Anyways the trip to Home Depot was a very unpleasant trip, I was so not expecting to spend 600$ for the PVC, chains, couple of blade for the saws-all. I seen haven't got the fans yet either, so I'm expecting that's another 200$. This is the total for this operation so far 5700$ rent for 1 year, roughly 6500$ for equipment, and the electric bill & water bill is yet to be determined, but I'm guessing the electric will be around 3K and water about 1k, so the total of this has come up to 16.2K.(I'm thinking really it will be 19K for the 1st year) DAMN!!!! My wife would trip if she looked into our account right now, but I'm hopping to replace almost 10k the 1st round. So after reading I'm guessing a dummy with a 1000 watt light would get a zip, so with 4 I should get 4 of them at the very minimum each time this year and if I push it I should be able to cut 4x this year. That's 16 zips, minus 1 for personal, that leaves 15, and if I did my math right I should be in the black by 40k by the end of my run... That's not Harvard, but a good state school for a year, and with 5 kids I should have them educated with only 18 more years of this.... DAMN!!! That's love!!! Anyways back to the reason I started to write this - my brother is LAZY, and if I didn't have vacations and stuff already planned I would fire him, but I need his assistance real bad!!! I will be hard at work on Monday building. So here we grow....

Yes it is expensive, do you have those 1000HPS on digital ballasts, so you can vary the wattage?

Your first grow will be a learning experience, by your second grow you will have learnt wwhat works for your grow room and what doesn't.

By your third grow you will have learnt even more.

Then by your fourth grow, you may have it dialed in.

As far as pricing things up, that's the kind of thing you should have all done and dusted beforehand my friend (not in the midst of it).

You have calculated for an optimum yeild first time around, that's a mistake. Take the figure you expect and half it (now your in the ball park) anything more should be an unexpected bonus.

Start watching your costs very carefully and try to make sure you get the most bang for your buck, shop around, compare prices on the net, then wipe the history (so your wife doesn't see).

Expect to hit the ground walking and take it from there.

Looks like you had a pic fail up there so for pics:

1) Go to make a post.

2) Click the 3rd box from the right, on top of the post box (posting area). This is the insert image box. Then click, “From your computer”, then click “Basic” then click in the next box that comes onto the screen or click “Browse”.

Then click, “From your computer”, then click “Basic” then click in the next box that comes onto the screen or click “Browse”.

You will then select the pic you wish to use from the appropriate folder on your computer.

You will then click “Upload” and wait till the pic uploads.

You may repeat the process for more pics, then say the word Abracadabra and they will appear, like so:

Herb Man Hustling Week 4 Flowering 001.jpg Herb Man Hustling Week 4 Flowering 005.jpg Herb Man Hustling Week 4 Flowering 023.jpg

These are some of my babies at week three of flowering under 400HPS.

Good luck fella.

The 1st & maybe even the 2nd round will be from clones. The strain I chose was master kush & carmelisious. I think I should be able to grab it all in 1 more truck load. As far as smell goes I grabbed 2 big carbon filters (back left corner of the room) so the smell is taken care of. I'm doing 2 ebb & flow trays with 2 lights per tray & then a bathroom for the mothers and clones with that T5 light. This entire thing started about 9 months ago after a "golf" trip to Cali, I started the research of this project, so as far as price went and paying cash for everything I had a little over 10K stacked up to start, my statement of DAMN wasn't so much a not comparing prices DAMN as it was a general DAMN, so I was already prepared for it, but dropping cash out of your pocket like that, if DAMN didn't come out of your mouth then I probably wouldn't be looking for a way to put 5 kids through college. Also when I research the 2 strains it also has a yield expected and both were in the 600g per plant boat which is a little more than a zip a piece so I'm not off too much on expectations. Also I started this thread ready to build and start ASAP, & I'm already a month into this lease and not 1 light on yet, so your super right about the walking part.(not to happy about that) so thanks for the steps on pics, & I always erase the history...

You actually can convert bebez from hydro to soil, itll slow em down a bit but what ever. Your on the right track and i figure that you have the right work ethic. Just get your brother on here and well be fine, hell pick up ok. When they start doing exactly what youll see what your 1ks will do for ya. I dont know if youve run the ducting yet but dang that costs a bit too. Its all worth it though. Plants are like family. If you take care of them they take care of you and i think youll be fine bro. The first ones the best man, youll love it :):):!

I just talked to my biggest mental guide, and he told me ebb n flow SUCKS!!! Now I feel a little confused on what I should do. Do any of y'all have any pros/cons on that way, or recommendation on which water way I should go with. His suggestion is deep water?!. I'm sold on water so please, need advice...

Pretty sure I read somewhere that dw is more prone to root rot... Just what I read. I don't grow hydro so I don't know from experience

If this is what your "guide" told you, get a new guide. When you get it dialed in, ebb and flow rocks. I work both soil and hydro, and the build I'm doing right now is e&f and it'll rock the shit. Key is getting it dialed in. It's family time right now so I'm going watch a movie with the wife. I'll be back along and see if I can help ya along any.

Never done it, so can't comment, I do like the idea of it thought and I imagine I will have a go at some point.

It's gonna take some research on your part to decide which medium you wish to grow in.

It really is a personal choice.

Ebb and flow is one of the harder ways to do hydro. Takes some help for your first time id think. Iveseen alot of ebb and flow disasters on here. Youve probably already bought hydro stuff so you probably want to stick with it. Ive done dwc, on my first grow and its soo damn easy. If you can read a ppm meter your good. No messin around, they produce like a mofo, and its realitively cheap on the nutes. If you go that way and things go ok you WILL make all your money back plus more, probly alot more ;) im pretty sure that your going sog method so ill tell you what id do if i were doing dwc. Go to walmart and buy as many of those 27 gallon totes as you need to cover the light footprint and put six holes in the top of each tote. Dont by the flimsy ones because they cant hold all the water weight without bowing, theres a black one with a yellow top that works great. Get six inch netpots to fill all the holes and an air pump for each tote with two outlets on each pump. One airstone per side of the tote should be fine for your needs. They should yield over an oz per plant, no prob. Id say you can probably do four totes per 1000k light if you got magnum hoods, please tell me you got big hoods ;) anyway, heres what im talking about, these plants in the tote were an expirement. I put them into flower not knowing what would happen after 18 days from the day i cut them. Over an oz per plant. In this pic theyre around three - four weeks from chop. Great results but i like growing monsters better and having fewer plants. Im a hobbyist though. I only changed the rez.......once. At around day 60 of flower on the tote. My thoughts are from a book i read and the guy says that you should change the water when its all been consumed. and they dont need much when theyre small. Kept low ppm, like 650 until then and i never even phd the water once. My water starts at ph 6 so its pretty much perfect already and my nutes ph at 6 with water. The rez climed to 7.5 ph max. No big deal at all. I use AN sensi a&b and swear by that stuff for hydro. The leaves wouldnt even yellow really, green until just about harvest. It was great. The two big ones got changed out every 15 days. Five gallon buckets and they were drinking around 2.2 liters a day. Any questions hit me up, heres some pics :):):)
