I know, eh? Growing up where I did (civilization, lol) I'd never heard the word, outside of a few WWII-era limericks. There are a few of 'em around here, though, on the outskirts of the city and in the satellite towns....many of them remind me of Sleepy Hollow, especially at dusk/full dark....
Fun fact: Sleepy Hollow is an actual town, very near where I spent a lot of my youth. Don't believe me?
I think when many folks, especially our international friends, hear/envision 'New York' that they picture scenes from the Five Boroughs. Although NYC is my heart, I can't recommend the Adirondacks enough.

the beaver dam flooded the place i used after i planted them in the ground. it was about a month before i could check them and the whole area had been flooded for a while
