Isn't this enuf reason to legalize?

Abstract

Cannabinoids and in particular the main psychoactive Δ9-THC are promising substances for the development of new drugs and are of high importance in biomedicine and pharmacy. This review gives an overview of the chemical properties of Δ9-THC, its synthesis on industrial scale, and the synthesis of important metabolites. The biosynthesis of cannabinoids in Cannabis sativa is extensively described in addition to strategies for optimization of this plant for cannabinoid employment in medicine. The metabolism of Δ9-THC in humans is shown and, based on this, analytical procedures for cannabinoids and their metabolites in human forensic samples as well as in C. sativa will be discussed. Furthermore, some aspects of medicinal indications for Δ9-THC and its ways of administration are described. Finally, some synthetic cannabinoids and their importance in research and medicine are delineated.

sadly, no. the bankers will still make more money off it's prohibition than it's legalization for medical pharmacology.

money makes the world go round...not that I don't like money...but when that objective promotes a hinderance to a better medical solution...something's wrong! :blsmoke:

It's not all about pot. There are a few thousand things more important than legalizing pot. Legalization would be nice for potheads, and there may even be some medicinal benefits to THC, But you have the likes of John Edwards saying that legalization would be bad for Kids, the mindset for legalization is just not there in the 535 or the white house to legalize. So get used to the fact that what you are doing is a crime, and hopefully in your area, only a misdemeanor. Maybe Medicinal legalization will be recognized in our lifetime, but recreational legalization is a long ways off,. Sorry for you potheads, but thems the facts jack. I'll lay a grand on the line against the legalization of pot in the next ten years, Nationally, any takers.

to take a line from "The Devil Wears Prada"....I hear this....I wanna hear this.....self-explanatory.

this shit annoys me...
the information is there, everything you need to know, proof of benefits,
yet the corrupt pharmaceutical companies are like "no, no, marijuana is bad! say no to drugs!"

and of course, the sleeping world listens to what they say because everyone is so damn blind to the shit that's going on around them...

I agree with medicineman in fact I do not believe it will be legal within my lifetime, I'm in my early 30's. It's not going to happen for many reasons, money, and stoners just don't do what needs to be done and I don't see us changing. The legalization of MJ will be harder to achieve than I think most of us think. It's gonna piss a bunch of people/business off big time and I don't see it being legalized in my lifetime. Huge ripple effect if it is legalized, hemp will shatter the synthetic fiber companies (Du Pont), medically pharma companies will lose big time (people might treat certain illnesses with MJ instead of said perscription drug), alcohol companies, etc. A lot of people are going to fight tooth and nail for it to stay illegal and none of us are going to fight tooth and nail against them to legalize it....stoners are notorious for doing nothing.

thanks Gyg.....you make a lot of good points. I can't and I don't believe anyone can fully verify at this point. We will have to wait and see. I expect that you may be right.....there is and will continue to be signifcant opposition to such an outcome. However, my dad (a medical doctor for 45+ years) worked long and hard, and was a strong believer in the abolishment of cigarette smoking........and although he has departed this world.....it is interesting to see that one by one the steps are being taken to eliminate smoking.....at least where I am.....through increasingly rstrictive municipal by-laws banning smoking....

excerpted from .... Marijuana research; The Cannabis Conundrum .........But you won't find any commercial development of plant-based marijuana medicines being pursued in the United States. Andrea Barthwell, a deputy director in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and President Bush's point person on medical marijuana, says cannabis medicines aren't compatible with modern science. They do not constitute "a serious line of research," she says.

"The people who are advancing marijuana as a medicine are perpetuating a cruel hoax that exploits our compassion for the sick," Barthwell says. "They are using patients' pain and suffering in an attempt to change America's drug control policy. Marijuana is a crude plant product that most definitely is not a medicine." It's a curious statement, given that it seems to reflect neither the views of the international scientific community nor those of the government's own regulatory agencies. For one thing, the Food and Drug Administration is reviewing 139 new-drug applications involving botanical research products, so plant-based medicines certainly aren't anathema. As for cannabis, in 1999 the Institute of Medicine, working at the behest of the White House drug czar's office, issued a lengthy report that assessed the scientific evidence concerning potential medical uses of marijuana. Its preeminent recommendation: "Research should continue into physiological effects of synthetic and plant-derived cannabinoids."

Also did you know you can't patent a plant? Meaning they , the gov't couldn't control it. If they can't control it, it stays illegal. And if they do legalize it, I believe that us growers will not be allowed to grow, just my guess but it's what I believe.

May I recommend a book? Sure I can

Excellent book, looks at why MJ should be legal from every different angle...I learned a lot and I think you guys should to.
