Is there anything I can do to stop the sound of the fan

So i just finished mounting my new Ruck fan (150mm/6 Inch 470m3) . I have now connected it to my "Primair" speed controller, & my problem is that when set to any speed but high it makes a buzzing sound (not the sound of the air wooshing through the fan, but an electronic buzzing sound from the fans internal circuitry, though the speed controller is fine). Is there any device on the market which will kill the noise totally?
I have a great cabinet setup in my room but the noise will definetely keep me awake during the night.

Do you know of any device(s) which will stop the noise but not make a difference to the speed of the fan?

Yes, a silent fan. Whats the point in buying something to make a noisy fan quieter? BUy a silent fan!

I did consider those fans but they cost £300 and weigh over 10kg, I needed to mount it on top of the cabinet which wouldnt have been able to support it. But then again its the electrical buzzing sound which is the problem not the sound of the air passing through the fan (you know that swooshing sound).

In the Uk good bathrooms are now fitted with 4.5inch silent fans and cost about £30 or $45 and weigh nothing. I suggest you do a little more research.

I searched for fans which are in the specification of 150mm/6 Inch 470m3 but had no luck, anyway do you happen to know of anything I can purchase to reduce the noise?

i know exactly what your talking about. A friend of mine has a speed controler too. Nothing you can do man, its how they work.

Thanks Woomeister, but I already have the Ruck fan mounted, just finish yesterday night so if anyone has found any add on accessory to kill/reduce the noise please POST HERE FIRST.

try hooking the fan up without the speed control, no more buzzing

you can get something to get rid of that electric current noise, about £50 on ebay, search for inline fan controllers

I tried that nothing came up

i don't know what a 'ruck' is... but if it is a in-line fan... then just use the "pink stuff"... wrap a bunch of insulation (r13 or r19) or whatever you have around the fan and tape it up. You can also build a wooden box around this wrapped up fan with just holes cut in two walls for the input and output.

Just insulate the hell out of it. As long as you're not blocking an intake... it can't hurt. Also, use something fire resistant just to be safe... the pink stuff is good... just strip off the paper backing.

Im thinking of doing that for my dry area I think theres a guide on this site somwhere. Thanks though.

Heres a easy method get foam or something of that nature, cut into strips and put between the fan and the box thus dampering sound and vibrations
