Is rust bad?

So I got my new setup up and running and I'm using some airstones that are somewhat lite. To weight them done I am using weights that are not made from lead. These weights have some slight rust on them and I'm just wondering if this would harm the plants or if I should switch to lead weights as they don't seem to rust.

the suction cups are unreliable. They work for about a day then I find them floating.
