I think the idea of throwing trillions of dollars into outerspace is stupid.
Man kind has way more problems here on planet earth that need to be handled before space exploration should have been considered.

Why cant we just go extinct when it happens?

I say let it be and accept the world we live in, while we live in it, and make changes here if necessary while we have the time. Then, just let go.

Id rather stick my head in the sand and not have to watch crap loads of money get wasted.

Haha yep, Branson's space ship wasn't built to explore, it was developed and built so that they could charge millionaires a whole lotta money to give them a space ride. Just the first attempt at space travel commercialization, like you noted.

Branson might have been able to make it all work if he had collaborated with the Russians for the propulsion and guidance systems.

That Elon Musk is a smart guy though, he saw that the Russians pretty much had a monoploly on the propulsion aspect of orbital craft and started his own endeavor.

Space exploration will grow by leaps and bounds once the private market gets involved, in fact you can see that happening now.

Is NASA lying... about what? Clarify your question, please.

Nothing wrong with being conservative in your economic views, its how most people are able to live long enough to see retirement.
Just think if we found a new element on Mars that opened up a whole new possibility in technology that would give us clean free energy forever. Imagine how life would change for the better.
