Is it worth the extra money for a different bulb?

Did very much correspondence and phone conversations with them...they designed it for cannabis they say and have a phd botanist on board...great design IMO but pricing structure need to normalize
Yeah that price is totally unaffordable. Interesting to know anyway.

I can't figure out what the question is....are you asking about red and blue HPS? btw having the red (HP) and blue (which we know is Metal Halide now) mixed up will work fine:) Kite High thanks for at least mentioning LED's my OCD was going nuts.....and OMFG@ the Light Beam that looks beast!

the blue (mh) will have a little less stretch in veg, the red (hps) will probably out yield the mh in flower. but thats arguable, and either will out yield cfl or led. led might be better one day but its not there yet afaik. i veg under a t8 fl bc i have 8 weeks before theres room in my flower room and the stretch helps spread the plants over a 2x4 trellis for the vert flower room. if your using 1 room for veg and flower and fast veg + tight internodes is desirable, then either a hps or a mh will work realy well all other things considered. seperate bulbs for veg and flower is nice, but unless you are a comercial grower, its totaly unnescessary imo.

So are you saying if I only get one bulb get MH because the MH will be better for veg but the HPS will only be better for flowering a little if any?

This is essentially my original question. If I go with a one room set up I will have one reflector and one ballast, and just switch the MH to the HPS for flower stage. It only cost be an additional $50+/- for a separate bulb but if the different spectrum wont give me $50 more of bud then why buy the "flowering" and "veg" bulb's when I can run one type the whole time and see fairly similar end result.

My other questions stemed off just out of wondering and trying to learn about lights in general.

Then it got me wondering one guy said 2 400watts will work better than 1 1000watt. So could I just run 1 HPS and 1 MH the whole time?

and as another question some one mentions the benefit the HPS would give would be the spectrum goes into UV. Couldn't I just run a few black lights?

well, if there was a point to my post, it was that either one will do a pretty good job all the way thru. theres alot of other variables so idk. i do a single 600 hps vert atm and im happy with it. if i add a second light it will be a mh stacked on top. as far as wether 2x400 is better than 1k idk it kind of depends on how you go about it. 1k bulbs def have less problems getting good density than 400's if thats something that matters to you. 2x400 would have a bit better coverage but its still less light than a 1k. idk much about cmh ive heard good things but no personal exp.
as far as the yield thing... i think the reason alot of ppl like mh for veg is that it reduces stretch. tighter internodes means shorter plants and, probably, denser buds. if you keep your plants happy thru the whole grow, you will get better yields. if you dont keep them happy, no light, nute, additive, system, whatever will do much good. so wether or not its worth it idk, prob not if your just starting. you will prob go thru several dif lights and set ups before you find one you like, and there is literaly no end to the amount of crap you can waste money on growing weed. lol im realy stoned :) hf

Kite, when checking for cdm/cmh I saw philips or GE has 4100K and 3000K. To go through both vegging and flowering, do you think this lamp would be ok or I need to look better for 4100K?

since you can keep the 400s so much closer than the 1000 it more than makes up for it but you should scrog or do really good sidelighting

Why not, did you grow larf with some?
Not sure what Larf is? But like I said above, this was based both off of my own studies and personal experiences with a friends harvests under UFO LED's. Don't take my word for it. I'm not exactly giving you concrete evidence, so do the research yourself. Maybe I'm wrong.
But believe me, when going stealth was a top priority I did a ton of research in the matter and time and again I found less than desirable results flowering under LED's. That's not to say I wouldn't use them if they were my only option. But for the price I'd go with an HPS, ventilation and a carbon filter.

And to address the questions above:
If there were only a single bulb for every aspect of growing, I would recommend the HPS over any other bulb. It does well in the veg stage, and it's nearly ideal for flowering. Fortunately, the days of deciding between bulbs is behind us. They carry conversion lights in every size from 250w to 1000w.
Also, mathematically, two 400w's beat a single 1000w based solely off the minimum required distance between the bulb and the canopy of the plants. But I think I already said all of this. Good luck with things.

Peace,
BW

Larf, air buds, underdeveloped buds.......like bottoms, when you squeeze them, nothing really there, no core weight.
