I just bought two of these generic dimming electronic 600 watt ballasts. They have four settings 50% 75% 100% 110% . They have resetable fuses and soft starts. They appear to be very high quality and light the bulbs nicely. At 140$ I think they are a steal. Course chinese manufacturers are real good at making stuff appear quality that is garbage.

Anyhow, I'm wondering if it's safe to run a 600 watt bulb at 300 watts? I am thinking that the 50% setting should do nicely for seedlings and clones. Thanks!

how can you do that.. that like trying to air up a tire that has 25lbs in it and ur trying to pump it up with 25lbs of air. just ain't going to happen

bulb lights man. don't ask me. I don't think the manufacturer was aware of the impossibility based on tire pressure. suppose they shoulda done some research.

Yes you can run a 600w bulb at 300w - this is what the dimmer was made for.

My 600w dimmable lumatek can run a 1000w bulb at 660w, 600w, and 450w. It can run a 600w bulb at 660w, 600w, 450w, and 300w. It can also run a high quality 400w bulb at 450w and any 400w bulb at 300w.

Sounds like you got a good deal but if you ever need more I would recommend going with a lumatek for just $40 more - http://www.urbansunshine.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=233_244_251&products_id=17637

Cool! Thanks Gastanker. I would have definitely paid the 40 dollars more. Are you sure it's really that cheap? I had priced a bunch of stuff at htgsupply and then realized that they were adding silly profit in shipping. The fine print there stated that shipping charges had to be paid even if you pick it up in person. That clinched my decision to drive to Atlantis Hydroponics a few hundred miles away and buy all my stuff. I was paranoid as hell and circled the place about 8 times looking for evil goverment bastards.

Yes it's that cheap. If you buy their full systems which are considerably cheaper than HTG it includes free shipping. HTG charges ~$50 for that along with handling.

Amazing deals - these lumateks are actually cheaper than HTGs crap digital greenhouses and WAY cheaper than what they charge for lumateks. I own both an HTG digital greenhouse as well as a lumatek from these guys and I really regret the HTG ballast. It's not terrible but it still doesn't compare

I had a digital greenhouse 400W ballast. There was a brown out, and the bulb was arching like a welders torch, and was melting the insides. A real fire hazaard that could have done major damage if I wasn't home. This was 2 years ago for me. I hope they atleast didn't burn anyone's house down. Never again from HTG.

I use Digital Greenhouse ballasts from HTG. Never had a problem. I have 12x600W and 4x400W, the oldest being 6 years old. Like I said, never a problem. Just lucky I guess.
They're standard bulbs are shit though. They last about a month, if your lucky.
