Is it normal to see sort of a brownish and burnt buildup on top of bulb?

I have a 1000w MH bulb that has this sort of.... gooey brown and clearish buildup on top of the bulb - not at the base, but right on top about an inch away from where the base of the bulb starts.

I almost thought it looked like the bulbs glass had blown up on top but Upon inspection it's absolutely fine other than the gunk.

What is this, and should I be worried, clean it off?

Thanks a million.

Prolly glue that holds the cap on.. lamp heating up melting it. Hours on that lamp is?

I had in on 24-0 for the first month or so, and since Christmas I've had it on 18-6. Also, just dimmed it down to what I can only assume is 500w (it's setting is at 50%).

Cx2H, is there any certain method of cleaning the bulb off after my dirty dick beaters touched it during cleaning?

I have seen some Reflectors and Cool Tubes with a thin plastic film on the inside. It can be hard to notice, but it's important to remove it. It may have heated up, fell onto the lamp and melted.

After touching one, I use alcohol wipes to clean it and then wrap it in a cotton towel to buff it clean and store in a box.
