Could be that this mainliner person found a script to run on the site.
I have been thinking about how to build a bot that does almost exactly what DREGER did, and I am sorely tempted to make a proof of concept.
When I first saw “abesup-everything” I thought you were having a stroke, but ODG cleared it up for me, lol

Nothing too special, lots of regex matching is the hard bit, and then automate a web browser using the Laravel Dusk testing tool.
For instance, any time someone says the username it triggers the bot to use dusk to surf instagram for a word in the post, screenshot it and make a reply here on RIU with that screenshot, I could also pull text from elsewhere on the web to make it look like it was writing replies that were somehow related...
I am working on building a “grow tracker” web service and I probably shouldn’t get distracted from that... but it sounds fun, lol

Bots are automation software for the web, in this sense. @farmerfischer and I discussed it a bit. I am still not 100% sure it wasn’t someone with too much time on their hands and an obsessive disorder...but the scale of activity screamed bot to me.
They can be used for good or evil, or just for the lulz. I felt it could be probing for security vulnerabilities, gathering intel on users, or both.
I would not be surprised if it was someone fucking around with TensorFlow, which is Google’s machine learning algorithm, and the longer we would have let it run the more it would learn, but what was it learning? Only the programmer knows.
Expect a lot more crude “AI” users to pop up this year, machine learning is hot like fire right now and the script kiddies will exploit it.
Hot tranny Frodo can peg me any day.
