Is chlorine killing my plants?

Hey there,

I have a few Questions that i am in need of help with, I have searched the net but find the answers are not the same,

I have been growing for some years now and have not really had problems like this, I have planted some auto seeds, and also some normal seeds, All come out very quick and were planted in to 7L pots, Under 600w lights, Not the problem is not the seeds or the soil as i have checked both, As i gave a friend some of the same seeds and soil and also feed, Now his are very nice, Good growth and Bud on them all, Now mine and very very pale yellow and have not grown bigger then 7", there is no growth on them nor any green on them, the first week they were very nice and looked good, but over the next week they just stopped growing and went all yellow, Now My PH is set to 6.5 and my EC is set at 1.6. Tep is 28 lights on and 26 with off,

This is my First grow in this new house, and the house is new build house and we are the first to live here, Now i am thinking that there is somthing wrong with the water like to much Chlorine in the water. But when i noticed that there was somthing wrong i started to leave my water for 40 hours to see if this would help and clear the water of the Chlorine, But it does not seamed to have worked as i have bring two nice big plants from a friends to see what happens, not they too are starting to go yellow, I am at a loss to as what to do :(

Question is this, WTF is going wrong,,,,

if your using tap water, get a big jug/jars/bottles, fill them, leave them opened/untopped/uncapped and use them 1-3 days later after a day most of the crap has evaporated off, after 3 days its as clean as its gonna get

if your thinking you have a LOT of crap in the water, use a brita water filter.

Thanks for the reply,

Will a brita filter clean the Chlorine from the water st8 away so i can use it st8 away?
I have been leaving the water for over 40 hours, i will try leaving it longer, do i need to put oxygen tablets in my water if i leaving it stand so long?

See what i mean..... so if it not chlorine what is it, There is not life in the plants and the pale yellow lifeless leafs have no growth, As for pictures i can try tomor, have no cam here, but i have been reading and searching the net now and lots are saying that the chlorine is what is stopping them growing...

Dude, chlorine in tap water doesn't hurt plants. No need for a brita. The only time you should need to filter your water is if your water comes from a well. Get a cheap plastic trash can, fill it with water, and get and air pump and air stone to keep the water oxygenated. It's better to keep water in something like that so it stays room temp. Sometimes tap water is pretty damn cold. Again, the amounts of chlorine in tap water doesn't affect plants. It sounds like you need better soil, or nutrients.

the problem is the night temps MUST be well over 10 degrees lower than day temps, the plants still think it is daytime without light, they will be going all spindly thin, yellow and stretching for the light in the dark period. (remember that these plants will readily take 24hr light if offered)
run your tap as fast as possible in to your water container you will smell the chlorine turning to gas, leave for 24 hours water is now perfect.
also if your ph is ok, if your soil and nutes are ok, what kind of lamps are you using, use dual spectrum, get rid of any metal halides or pure hps red.

you must get those night temps down and keep an oscilating fan blowing over the canopy 24hrs.

my temps are 28 day, and 18 at night, i use a computerised temp controller.

CHANGE ANY BULBS TO HPS DUAL SPECTRUM AFTER YOU HAVE SOLVED THE NIGHT TEMPS.

Wrong. Temps do not cause leaves to yellow. Also, your speaking as if he needs to let chlorine evaporate, he doesn't. He needs to do something about his soil or nutrients, or both.

I am not really sure if the night temp is the Answer, as i have been doing this way for a number of years with no problem at all, I only drop the night time temp closer to the end to stress them some what, Growing is very strange as over the years you hear one then and then a other that chaces what you already heared, if you get me.. I know changing the night time temp lower can produce diffrent finishes, I am sure that my problem is not this, As for lights, Yes i am on 600w sont+ once more used them for years with no problem and the bulbs are quite new, 1 grow before,

Even my soil is new....... Greeeee...

I will find the answers..

Thanks for your advice :)

the chemicals in tap water will kill any good bacteria that your plant uses to defend itself against disease, the chemicals will not directly affect growth. you can usually do a taste test with your tap water, run it fast in to a jug and leave for 24 hours, it should then taste better than the water that is now coming from the tap, although can now be succeptible to bacteria, that is why you do not leave it sitting longer than 24 hours, if you do , then you must use a pump to keep the water agitated and oxygenated to stop bad bacteria forming. this can kill plants and fish.

Right lets try and see:

Pots are new.
Soil is new, with perlite and drinage stones.
Lights are 600w Son T+
Temps are Fine ( in my eyes) 28 on 26 off
Fans and inlet and out let Computerised.

New house (new Build) First Grow in this house.

A friend moved 4 houses away and has the same problem He also used same soil as me, not the same feed, same light and his teps are higher then mine,
His have died two times in a row....

So as you can see, It has to be the water.. there is nothing eles it can Poss be... Is there... and if it is the water and you are saying that Chlorine will not hurt them, there must be somthing in the water,
By the way i live in Spain.... :)

Thanks for the help ppl :)

okay professor plum, i am just giving my opinion.

i had the same problem and i did not know what it was, the reason was i have a sealed grow room double skinned built inside another room and the temps were only dropping a couple of degrees at night, when i got the night temps down my next grow was going grow crazy.

the man is an experienced grower, he will have already have double checked his soil, his, ph, and his nutrient levels.
he will already have thought about any lamp/light spectrum problems he may solve by changing the bulbs.
so, you have the answer,

so what is it?

okay, buy an inline water purifier, they get inserted between the pipe which is cut leading to your tap and purify the water before it gets to you.

i can only suggest, if the water kills your plants, then do not drink it,...

or collect rain water from your roof guttering in to barrels and use that. cut the downpipe from the roof gutter and pop a barrel under it.

the water that is going to your tap may be heavy with pollution from vehicle exhaust fumes with all sorts of nasties in it collected in the atmosphere by the rain on the way down so this may not help either. it depends on the way your water company treats the water before it gets to you.
in scotland where i am we have one of the purest tap waters in the world, the company that treats it has a strict health legislation to stick to, and the water goes through several different treatments before it gets to our taps, and we can drink it from the streams that lead from our water reservoirs in the hills before the water board even touches it, although as i said it will have nasties in it.

Tap water will fuck your plants up. Dont listen to these guys. All the heavy metals and chemicals will make yoour plant turn yellow and wilt also burns the leaves. I use the gallons of water u buy a walmart for like 80 cents

Thanks for the help and advice ppl,

I am thinking it must have to have a fillter on the water coming in to the house, As we live in Spain the water is not really drinkable here... Rain, we only get 40 days rain a year...
I am thinking if there is a test kit to find out what is in my water and how much, as my ec meter say's the water is 0.6 to start..Just strange as i only moved two streets away and all my other grow have been very good. with no problems,

So just to be clear does Chlorine hurt the plants, As i would defo say YES,,, but some seam to think it will not...??? i am dam sure it can and is...

Depends on your tap water source. Here in florida all of our water comes from jed bush's toilet. They call the tap water here st pete koolaide. Flouride chlorine , even led and mercury can be found in tap water. That shit isnt nutritional to plants you know? Why even risk it.

i use tap water, and dont swear on here ya fuckin wanker, i bet 90% of members here feed with tap water, it is the exhaust fumes in the atmosphere collected by rain water that kills plants, it is called acid rain, some water companys cannot remove these chemicals.
Pshh i bet they dont even have walmarts in narnia or middle earth wherever you said u live

Say what? Too warm at night causes yellow leaves? NOT Get rid of MH and straight HPS, why?

And OP Mr Sticky is correct, chlorine will not harm your plants. And pics would help greatly...
