Is anyone in Maine growing Deep Chunk?

If you can swing it, you should do an open air pollination of the whole batch. Word on the street is that Tom Hill is getting done, meaning those genes are gonna become diluted over time. If you wanna take a cut from each one and root it, i'd do it over the winter and toss you back some seeds from the batch.

I have a flower room for males, and hand pollinate with a small brush. Open air pollination would give me too many seeds, and I also wouldn't be able to track which male was the father.

That's the idea. It ensures that all the genes in the pool you have are passed on, so you can go back to it later. Once Tom's seeds are gone, the gene pool for the strain will be limited to what other breeders want to work with.

I'm not sure how open air breeding would ensure any more genes are passed on, other than quanity. There isn't much more you can do besides cross every male with every female, and keep a clone of all 8 plants. The only real differnce is that I will know the father of the seeds. That is really important to me. I am looking for good breeding males. So I need to track both of the parents.

Looks like I have three males and five females by looking at preflowers. It will probably be two to three weeks before I take clones.

I usually take at least three clones of each plant before I throw them into flowering. I can probably throw some your way if you want to do the open air thing. I am not really all that interested in the seeds produced. If you have really nice plants, I would be interested in clones.

I guess it is "western" Maine.

My patients are all over the state, but I usually stay in the area between Lewiston/Auburn, Augusta and Farmington. I head down to Portland, or up to Bangor every once in a while.

If anyone does a small seed run of DC, please keep me posted, as I would love to have this strain for patients. I work with a lot of DC crosses and having the original would be something amazing to me.
