Is 600 watts hps enough for a 4x4 tent

I'm still a new grower. I've got maybe 5 grows using my cheapo 2x4 tent with a 600 watt pendant. Typically I grow 2 plants at once; tried 4 plants but the tent got too crowded. I think I'm wasting watts though and want to be more efficient (read more plants per grow and per watt).
If I go to a 4x4 tent, is 600 watts going to be enough? I dont want to spend the money on upgraded lighting just yet.

Maybe I'm wrong, I thought all hanging lights were pendants. It's an air cooled HID lighting fixture.
This is what I have and I position it a little behind center . Then I have a Mars 1000 for the front for and a half of the tent . The overlapping light sources create some really good numbers in the tent . Technically u can just use the 600 though just get a good wide spread hood

Not here in the United States. At least I've never heard them called that. But yes a 600 watt HID is enough. That's what I use in my 4 x 4 flowering tent. A 600 watt HID and a 4 x 4 tent is a pretty common match.
I agree I used my wing reflector, think that what it's called but it covered the whole tent

I found a 600 in a big hood was Not nearly enough photon density. Even the smaller Solis-Tech big hoods, designed for a 6" exhaust was to big.
I used the Medium sized hoods. Wanna say they were called XtraSun. Really liked the distribution on them & reflector design.
Had many overlapping so hard to say the exact coverage i got from them. A good 3.5' around I'd say.
But that gave much better par #'s & depth to the density.
Even had a very small hood for high intensity. Which covered the same area as the Medium & large hood almost. Just had to be hung higher.
600w HPS, over x1 plant with 2 month veg gives an average of 1#, strain dependent. 3.5' around, allowing a little breathing & working room in the 4x4 tent.
A few 14w led Flood lights from Home Depot in 5k will be beneficial to your HPS & your plant will thank you!

This guy has a very good point!

If you want to max your effective lighting in a tent - a 4x4 or a 5x5 - 4x8 would have 2 lights etc.

USE A SQUARE HOOD!

Good luck finding them anymore BUT damn worth your time if you grow in tents!

Look at Craigs list and Ebay for the older SunSytems Blockbuster line of hoods.
I wouldn't doubt that there are Chinese cheapies that are square out there too...

Oh yeah.

600 watts of HID in a 4x4 tent is just fine.
I would venture that if you wanted to grow straight/pure sativa's...You would want to go up to a 1K system...
