Irrigation pump noise help!

Ive got two of these things. And they pound out 90 dbs each. How can i make them quieter? theres only a brickwall between the neighbour and that noise.

take a rubbermaid bin and line the walls with foam and keep then in there?

they make a sleeve for those that are supposed to reduce noise. you can box them in even though it can be difficult but use fiberglass box. i prefer to make my own cuz you can make sure its sealed with an opening just large enough to service them. with my experience with working on commercial fishing boat and being around a detroit deisel enclosed in a fiberglass box it works pretty well.

Air flows out of the top of the pumps. Wouldnt that cause damage to them? if its air tight. I dont know what a rubbermaid bin is though?

yes after you build the fiberglass box fill it up with insulation to cut back on reverberation

if they are electric motors they dont have an exhaust. depending on the make and model heat can be an issue. if thats the case move the pumps side by side and build one large fiberglass box around them so you will have one big one instead of two small ones

ive heard plexyglass is a good on reducing noise. its the best as what they use for soundproof room. just cant be cheap stuff class one bullet proof atleast

rubbermaid bin is what you get at walmart and they are about 2 by 3 ft 2 1/2 ft deep and they are usually used to hold clothes. all those do is get the pump out of the rain and sun doesnt do a thing for the noise

how much do you reckon 90 dbs will break down to by the time it reaches the neighbour?

it depends on just about everything. is it an apartment wall? garage wall? is it going through his garage wall or his living room wall? windows? are they wood houses or block houses. all those determines how much he hears. what i would do as a test is go to his wall at night when sound travels the best and see how well you hear it at his wall. and if you can keep it low enough not to hear at his wall he wont hear it inside

and 90 dbs can be very loud. especially at night. have you ever though about moving the pumps to a location further away from your neighbor and run more pipe?
