Invasion of Privacy

Has this ever happened to anyone of you?
I rent a two story townhouse, which has the office and maintenance
on-site. Well, I was cleaning my garage and had the garage door open,
so I ran inside to use the bathroom upstairs, and left the garage door
open (safe community). A few minutes later I hear the door that
connects to the garage open and hear someone say “Hello……….Your garage
door is open”. It was the maintenance man, who didn’t knock or identify
himself. In my lease, which I just reread, it clearly states that
maintenance can only enter without a 24 hour notice if there is an
emergency. And from reading the Invasion of privacy laws, it also
states that they must knock and identify themselves.
Well, the thing is that my grow room is downstairs and I have a black
blanket hanging over my door, with the door open, so the glow of the
lights can be clearly be seen from where he was standing.View 1.png
View 2.pngI am so nervous and don’t know what to do. I am not a panicky person
like the stories I read on this forum about the helicopters. lol

Don't be lazy shut your doors. There was no invasion of privacy. He saw an open door etc... and simply investigated. It could have been an emergency.

I wouldn't worry. Doesn't sound like anything more than a good samaritan. Even if he saw the light, I doubt the thought would be "they're growing weed". One time I posted on here asking about noise before I invested in an inline filter. My tent is in my home office and I work on speakerphone all day. Someone jumped to the conclusion that I was paranoid when in reality, I never even pondered someone would recognize the noise, I just wanted to be able to do my job :-)

I really am not the type to get paranoid. I usually am the one that laughs at paranoid people.

There was no invasion. If it is in plain sight it is fair game. This should serve as a wake-up call to tighten up, bro. This guy may not have known what he was looking at but still it is these type of missteps that can turn a good day real bad, real fast.
Be safe, not surprised.

I agree. I totally screwed!

The reason I have the blanket on my door is, because the glow room is in my closet, in which I close the closet doors at night, and have a blanket sheet over my window, but I am just trying to guarantee that there are no light leaks. Maybe I am over doing it...lol

Funny thing is that an hour before I decided to go clean my garage I was watching Barry Cooper's "How to not get busted", just out of curiousity. lol

Concerned maintenance man looking out for your safety and security.

Worst case, if he did see anything, you'll have to offer him a deep discount from now on ;)

hahaha.....don't feel bad dude....I was renting this house a few years ago and a buddy asked if he could keep his plants at my place in the backyard. Well, turned out the landlord decided he was going to show a maintenance guy the back of my house (to fix a loose board) so we rushed and put the plants in my well house. Wouldn't you know it, the landlord went straight to the well house (for what reason I've yet to know) and opened it up. He didn't say anything but when I went to pay the rent his wife said we needed to remove them asap. Talk about lucking out!

Thanks! You did luck out ! lol
I am going to try not to stress out about it. My lease is up May 21st anyways. I was going to try to stay until around June 15th, for the sake of the plants, but now I think I will move in May.
