Hey COBKits! Let me ask you this: why do you seggest to get CXM22 instead lf Citizen CLU048? I'm trying to understand better all this COB thing; I just want to understand better :peace:

When i took apart my panels i tore down 1 connector if that's what it's called on my Citizen CLU048-1212C4. I am talking about the small metal plate that are on the side of '+' and '-' that you solder onto. Can it be fixed? I tried soldering without it and the solder just falls down. :eyesmoke:

post a pic not exactly sure what you mean. if youre talking about the solder pad on the chip itself thats irrepairable as the leads to the array from there are tiny and not solderable

You got what i meant. :cry: I ripped it and couldn't solder it back so I figured it's done deal just wanted to confirm.
Thanks for the answer, i know this is not the thread for it but i have one more question because i see you are knowledgeable and the thread i posted just got lost.

So last few runs with my DIY COBs i had my drivers on the floor in the corner of the room. Now that I moved I divided my panels into few smaller ones.

What is in your experience best place for drivers and why? Did you put your drivers on the panel or somewhere on the side?

up off the ground out of your way, either on the fixture or if mounted remotely not too far from cobs (~12 feet)

As someone that doesn't know much about COB, but is interested, I'd like to see a kit, or something that helps tie together all the parts needed. Like if I were buying a computer, I'd need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. It's kind of tough to figure out what all is needed. Would be cool if there were a kit for a complete COB.

Googling around, I see the CXB3590 is popular and it looks like most people buy the 36v version? So I assume we start here-

For heatsinks, there are a couple that say they're for the 3590 and in the first page you seem to like the 140mm, so I assume this is good-

For holders and reflectors, the descriptions lead me to these think these three are needed-

Do we need paste too, or is it either/or?

And what is the wattage? Second page of the datasheet looks like 3600ma, or 3.6a, which is about 130w at 36v...is that right? Each one is 130w? But page 11 looks like it depends on temp and 77F to 221F equates to about 70w to 97w, at 36v. Do we assume halfway at ~85w?

For the driver, the description (and price) lead me to this one- meanwell-hlg-185h-36a-driver but it says that any number of COB's can be added later on. There must be a limit..? This one is more than I want to spend- meanwell-hlg-600h-36b but it's nice that it tells you how many you can power with it. How many can be powered with the first one?

Anyway, I love the website and products are very intriguing, but it's tough to figure out what to order if you're not savvy.

a lot less doing new builds with cree these days as there are better cheaper options, i dont even sell them anymore

but lets continue on your 36V journey

maximum. few growers run them that hard as they are a lot less efficient at higher currents and temps

25-75W is popular for 36V cobs

in general it can be said that 700mA-2100 mA is popular for any cob

100? whatever the minimum is to light up a cob. in any case your 200W splits out amongst cobs 4@50W, 10@ 20W, 100@ 2W, etc

Awesome, thanks for taking the time! What I really wanted to do was put together ~100w 4-light frame as an addendum to my 315w lec, which meant trying to find 25w sources. It sounds like I can do that here, but with the bonus of being able to crank them up should I end up using it elsewhere. I much prefer it when pieces of the kit are versatile, so that's great.

That's a big thread, but I'll start sifting through. Thanks again. :)

any cob can be run as low as 25W but the differences in efficiency at that wattage is minimal. you could pay 2-5X as much for a 'better' cob for little to no gain so more cheaper/smaller cobs is a good bet in that range
