Into Flower with 400w MH

I have 6 plants about 36" tall in Veg. I have 2 monster girls in my Flower room and I think they won't be ready for 2 - 3 weeks. Can I start the veging plants into flower using my 400W MH light the total area is 4 x 4' What do you think I am afraid that they will get to big for the grow room if I let them veg. for 2 more weeks.
 
you can flower with a mh but it wont do them that great, why not just get a spare bulb and change it over with your mh
 
What green says sounds like the most logical thing to do. Get a spare bulb (they come in handy anyway). Those girls in the veg room are already very big you don't want to wait.

Ignore the two dickhead mushbrains above, their advice is poor and ill thought through, probably because Mogie couldn't find the question asked and answered somewhere else so he can't copy and paste a reply.

You've got two choices here for your situation. 1) Put them into flowering 12/12 with the Metal Halide for the first 2-3 weeks. It isn't ideal as the MH bulb doesn't output as much of the red/orange spectrum as a HPS would which is the correct PAR spectrum of light most used in the flowering phase, but the photoperiod would be enough to tell which sex they are (if they're not female clones) and would output enough of that spectrum to get flowering underway. It may extend your flowering period a little. 2) Buy a conversion bulb for MH that outputs more of the red/orange spectrum and use that in the MH to go 12/12. Conversion bulbs do not output as many lumens as a standard MH bulb would though.

Don't follow their advice and simply put a HPS bulb into a MH system (unless it's a confirmed switchable one) it may work, but all you'll do is shorten the life of the bulb and it will be a waste of money.
 
Whats the matter babygro cant get the buttplug out, let me guess because i cussed you and you dont have the brain power to come back your going to go across the whole site now after me and rubbish me, get a life, get a clue and get a new butt plug that comes out easier, maybe then we can all live in harmony
 
Thanks for the info. I think that I will put them into flower under the HM and switch them over when the girls are done.

That is what i would do as well, i started flowering my girls under cfl's, then switched to hps, doing fine.

for one, dont call people dickheads for no reason. you have no right to. and for two, mogie isnt a HE, dickhead. you seriously need to chill out because the advice they gave would work fine in that person situation. was it the best possible solution? maybe not. but it certainly didnt warrant the reply that you gave. and if youre so knowelegable, go start your own fuckin site and leave ours alone. ive been a memeber here for a lot longer than most, and for the past month or two, a lot of assholes like you have been voicing their opinions where they arent wanted. if you have any problems mogie or greenthumb, PM rollitup with your complaint. otherwise take greenthumbs advice on the buttplug. thanks
 
i totally agreee your response was un called for and makes you sound like a douche. anyways i feel that your plants can never get too big, you could always tie them down or go with the screen method where you take some chicken wire and put it like 4 inches below your bulb and then the plants grow everywhich way but up. also you should be able to get a cheap 400 watt hps form your local electrician ballast and bulb for like 120 bucks witha littlw surgery you can use those not porblem i have four of them
 
I was looking at a some 400w systems, their options were mh or hps however I do not think any advertised as being convertable. The salesman said there is a 400w ceramic type of mh bulb that will work with the mh setup and has more in the red spectrum than hps. Anyone know about this 400w ceramic mh bulb?
 
Never heard of a ceramic.f your ballast isnt switchable you ll need a "conversion bulb" if you want to make your mh into an hps the bulb is around $90 at most places. Itd be cheaper to get another 400 watt hps ballast and bulb and just dump the mh or use it for the veg and then youd have ability to do 2 grows
 
1000 would be better just make sure the hood is air cooled and you have plenty of venting. High tech garden has a awesome hood that has a gasket around the glass so it's completely air tight and also hinges so you can open it to access the bulb or just to clean the glass.
 
I'm sceptical of ordering online and I do not trust UPS. I'll see if I can find that type of setup locally. thanks all
 
by just lookin at the pricing of them i would say expansive;) i also never used eye products, only philips/osram and sylvania, so i really don' know;)
 
Interesting.. I remember an article in High Times (wayyy back when) about a grower who flowered blueberry hybrids under Metal Halide lamps on a regular basis. His reasoning : The blue/violet /uvb profiles of the MH arc suggested that while the resulting buds were not as big as those grown under HPS light, they were more fragrant (fruity, berry) tasty and potent then those grown under HPS lamps. An interesting theory was also proposed for MV (mercury vapor lamps). This particular article was entitled: "Bring the mountains indoors" and suggested a co-relation between growing ganja @ High Altitudes and increased potency. About 10 yrs ago, I used a small (175w) Mercury Vapor Lamp to grow a "test plant". The light does not put out a great deal of lumens, but the spectrum was a cool white/ blue /violet and the resulting buds (although not huge) were tight, resin-filled and Remarkably Potent:shock: . The test strain was Nirvana's California Orange, which btw had a most excellent frangrance and taste as well.
PS- for anyone who wants to try their own experiment, make Sure you get the Clear bulb, and not the phosphor -coated one :idea:
