Agreed.
I really like this last.fm, too, because it's pretty much impossible to find much of any gamelan/lagong music that's not the Monkey Chant. When we were in Bali a few years ago my son and I were invited to temple for a ceremony to make offerings and honor the moon god, and all the villagers were there, all dressed up
beautifully. They annointed us with yellow rice and flower petals and we made offerings while other villagers played their lagongs and other instruments. Truly an unforgettable evening, though at first it felt odd that we were the only westerners invited
in (open air on the beach).
Yeah, lots were standing off to the side, away, but somehow we'd managed to ingratiate ourselves well enough that our friends insisted we sit among them. Good people, those Balinese Hindus, the best.
The moment I can get back there, I am there. North side, Tulamben. Of course, I'm more than happy to go all over, even Mt. Agung, but I will never set foot in the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud. Monkey fuck you up, me stay away from monkey.
