Insulation for your tubs.

I needed a solution for my 2 18 gallon Rubbermaid DIY water farm system. Res temps were running 73 degrees. Coolers look awesome so I got to thinking about finding a way to insulate my system with common Home Depot items to see if it would help...man did it ever!!!

By just insulating all of my lines and tubs with the items above and nothing more, I've dropped my res temps by 8-9 degrees. Total cost was $16 and the insulation couldn't be any easier to work with. I'm surprised I haven't seen any other grow journals using this stuff..well worth every penny.

Depending on the environment, I believe an almost solid 10 degree reduction in res temp is possible.

600w MH
Room Temp : 68
Tent Temp : Low 75 Max 83 (rises and falls every 15 minutes due to my exhaust setup)
Res Temp : Started the day at 61.5 and never made it past 64.

Did a res change yesterday. I had brownish slime all over the air stones and lines. Wonder if it's because I had temps in the low to mid 70's for 8 days before dropping the res temps into the low 60's.

sounds like a cheap effective way,let us know if you get rid of the slime.dropping the rez temps should help

It's been 6 days of straight 61 degree res temps and no slime. None. Plant looks great.

I've had successful grows using this technique before but always had a few problems every time that I really couldn't fix, but was able to stay a few steps ahead of with a lot of work. I'm thinking res temps have been the problem.

I use Reflectix + cycle jugs of ice. If it's an outboard rez, blowing a fan across the surface will help too
