As per the infrared police helicopters thread - i dont think this factor should be overlooked!

Has anyone on here got any experience of insulating their growroom and if so what material did you use?

I wouldnt have a clue what to use or where to get it - i dont see many threads on this topic but its gotta be important so that that heat doesnt get picked up by the police helicopters...

thanks.

I just checked and there is this one and another topic started by me as well - there were a lot of different opinions/arguments but no conclusive methods or pictures of anyones insulated grow... do people seem to skimp on this it seems to be the final part of the operation, heres a video i found on youtube highlighting the importance of insulation and FLIR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTMuMu04i6Y

hopefully this will get many replies and some good advice from some of the experienced growers on here.

I insulated my entire grow room with R-13 fiberglass insulation. It's easy to find and relatively cheap.

You know, there are no materials that are going to reflect an infa-RED camera/scopes
signal. There are ways to interrupt the operating Megahertz waves.. which in return would disrupt the signal.. therefore returning a false image back to the operator. ;)

That's all I'm saying about that. Can't give out my information. I mean I could! But, it would take a LONG ass time to type and plus.. I don't think everyone here would understand what I'm talking about either. Ya dig?

peace.

:roll:FLIR cannot see through walls bro. Not even a little bit. FLIR works by scanning the surface temp of things. If your grow isn't properly insulated and you have like 6 1000w hps your house is gonna glow on FLIR. Don't vent to the outside either and you're good.

Thanks doc111 very positive feedback...

I shall be looking into that to see where i can find some - anyone else want to share how they insulated their grow?

Flir picks up on the jets of hot air coming out of your home, if its not a dryer vent, it looks suspicious. Vent filtered air indoors. In my grow room, ive put the grow at the back of the room, and then separated the room in half w/ plastic sheeting. i have air intake tube running from open window (w/ shutters down of course!) Its currently passive, but i may throw a fan on there if i think more is needed. My outtake vents into a carbon filter which releases air into the half of the room with the window. It then neutralizes in the cooler air of the room and floats out the window. I've put a thermometer on the sill and it only runs about 3-4 degrees MAX over room temp. If your running a lot of big lights, perhaps vent into a more interior room if possible. Just be mindful of the air and its temperature that exits your house.

If your growing in your attic, use pink panther fiberglass insulation between the joints in the rafters. a handheld staple gun will fit those in nicely. expect your indoor temp to rise a few degrees, compensate accordingly.

Its a hard call to make I would go with Doc111 he really knows his shit check out the "police infrared helecopters" thread it only died a couple of wks ago and he has posted some great info on there. Talking from the middle of the woods in Sweden!

just dont tell no one , most reasons why they would fly over and scan your house is cause someone is talking to much

Have you insulated your ducting also, if so what with?
I don't worry about insulating my ducting because my fan is 435cfm and it moves the air so quickly not much of the heat gets transferred to the duct. My temps only get up to 78-80 tops with a 1000w HID.

What is the point of mylar ADF? ,if, as everyone on RIU says a FLIR pig cannot see through a wall? Hows it anti-detection if your grow cannot be seen by a FLIR pig, only the heat it exhausts to the open? +Rep.

One other option.

C3 Anti Detection Products
C3 Anti Detection Mylar Foil

1.25 m x 100 m Rolls / 95% Light Reflective / 90% Heat Reflective
Originally used by the military as a defence against Infrared sensor devices, its now being used in the horticultural industry as a reflective film.
Why use C3 Anti-Detection Foil?
- Reduces growroom temp by 5 degrees
When ADF is not used, heat from the lights is absorbed by all objects, including the walls in the room. ADF reflects 90% of the heat so that most of the heat goes out your exhaust fan, thereby reducing the temperature.
- Reflects 95% of light!
Bigger yield and more efficient energy consumption. 20% more light reflective than plastic white film.
-Durable and easy to work with!
-Does not go clear upon contact with liquid!

I plan to use white lumitec paint within my closet and Fatmat sound/heat insulation to cover the outside shud b ok? and if not fuck it I think im way too small fish for any FLIR pigs, that said they are fucking pathetic..
