hi ive just got a new 10,000 btu AC for my room in the basement . i have one dryer vent to work with to vent my AC unit . the unit cools the room(obviously) and takes the hot humid air and exhausts it outside ..... this air is going to stink right? what does everyone here do with their portable units to avoid this ? MY BEST GUESS AT FIXING MY PROBLEM : have the AC vent into a box , have a small carbon filter in the box . then exhaust the box . How does this sound ? i have a small filter just sitting around anyway . i need to get this up and running. thanks :leaf:

If you make it hard for the a/c unit to get rid of the air quickly the unit will not cool how it should. The exhaust should be as short as possible in the house or you will lose the benifits of cooling because the vent pipe gets hot and that heat will radiate back into your room. the unit will be fighting itself, so keep your exhaust run short. As far as smell goes my unit has a vent or recircle option on vent it does blow skunky air out of the room, but on recirculate it is good to go

thanks for the reply . im checking my unit now. . i understand what you mean about the exhaust line (its not very long to begin with ) it outlines that in the manual , in my idea i have a filter ina box with exhaust fan . wouldt that be helping the unit ? thanks again

if you do it right and the box has no back pressure, yes it would work and help cool the unit.

Get a can filter and vortex fan and just recirculate the air in the room. The amount of air that escapes from a window unit is minimal if the smell is not overwhelming inside the room itself. Even with a recirculating A/C you still risk some smell escaping the louvres.

im not using a window unit if it makes a difference . thanks for the reply thats my second idea . now i cant decided. but in order to keep my unit on the floor and reach my dry vent hole i have to extend the exhaust anyway . so if i do the box thing with the fan/filter i can extend without making the unit work harder . hope this works im excited to get it running

you can extend the hose a bit just don't go crazy, and yes get a carbon filter and some of the odor gel and that should do it. the box thing is a bad idea just extend the hose

ya i just routed it to the dryer vent extended the hose by only a foot . so far no problems other than abit a noise from the dryer vent. if your standing by it . i dont like it that way
