insect poop - edibles?

I've got what I'm assuming is caterpillar and/or spider mite poop in some of my buds. I see either brown clumps or black spots. Soaking and washing get rid of some of it but not all. I'm assuming that ingesting small particles of poop rather than smoking it would be more or less harmless, right? Any experience?
