Is it okay to mount (hang) an inline fan in the attic? I was thinking that the much cooler air flowing over the motor would help keep it from overheating.

BTW, I'm not talking about exhausting into the attic. I know about the potential issues with mold from the humidity created by the plants.

The attic is cold??? Normally, attics ,especially in Summer are ovens. Your fan does not need to be cooled.
You misunderstood my statement. I was saying the air the fan intakes from the tent flows over the motor and fan blades as it exhausts out the other side. Since the fan is inside the center of the casing, it might stay cool enough, even if the attic is boiling hot in the summer.

I would probably be able to protect it from some of the hot attic air by wrapping it in insulation.

I've had an AC Infinity hanging and running non stop in mine for over 3 years. Live in a very hot and humid area so I imagine you'll be fine.
