Infertile plant with tiny seeds ???

Hi,

I'm six weeks into flowering and cut a small sample of immature buds for examination purposes. Upon examination of the seed pods I noticed a tiny seed like structure surrounded by what I guess is the embryo. I also noticed this at week 2 of flowering when examining premature buds on the same plant. It seems these "tiny" seeds never seem to develop or get any bigger at less then a 1/4 of the size of a regular seed. I also remember getting an ounce of fully matured bud back in the day with this same characteristic. It was a pain since there's no way to really separate them from your smoke because they are so tiny.

Does anyone know what I'm on about here ? Do you know what causes this ?

The best analogy I can think of is like a banana with it's tiny black infertile seeds. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Freak herms often produce weed with this type of underdeveloped seed , this can really effect the taste as its almost impossible to remove all of them most times not .. Some strains will throw male flowers deep and they are often unnoticed until after harvest once the herb is sampled .

Sad to say some of the best weed like Jacks Cleaner is prone to this , its all about stress sensitivity in my opinion and from my experience with freaks like JC and her offspring .. I have seen this happen with other dank ass plants as well mostly Hybrids and occasionally with land races ..

Edit , you ll find it easy for future reference to simply cut through a calyx with a razor if you want to look for possible male flowers

The strain is Romulan from Next Generation. I guess it's a freak herm since the other two I grew out were herms too. One was predominantly male with some female flowers at pre-flowering. The other was mostly fem with some male nodes noticed 1st week of flowers. They had rough childhood :( so a bit of stress there. It's a shame because the buds are looking frosty and dank now.
