Hello guys, I decided to take a break from growing pot, for 3-4 months so i can sterilise my grow room since i had a spider mite infection in my last grow and some gnats every now and then. Anyways, since i had my grow equipment siting in the basement i decided to try growing indoor watermellon for fun. My question is , does the water mellon blooms according to a day/night time schedule or according to the plant's age? anybody has any idea?

Watermellon blooms according to its age...so the light wont do any difference! The only thing that you should check is the kind of light that may needs!

That really depends if you are growing in soil or hydro. I have grown melons in hydro on veg formula and they will not bloom until the nutes were changed and then look out bloosms like mad. But you are correct for the most parts for light and fruiting due to it being a summer fruit.

I'd just run it 12hrs a day, but maybe 24/0 for the first week. You might also want to consider getting a screen so you don't have vines just running everywhere. They'd probably do really well in a vertical setup.

I think you mean to say that you are growing watermelon in your house or in house's garden? I think I don't hear about this that watermelon is also grown in house so let me clear this point that are you grow water melon in your room in the house or in the house garden?

Keeping the vines confined to a reasonable size would be probelmatic at best. All curcurbits (squash, gourds, cucumber and melons) require a large area for the vines to spread. A single watermelon plant could require as much as 100-600 sq. ft. of growing area so some type of trellising would be in order. I've seen people casually plant watermelons near their other veggies only to have the melons dominate the garden later on.

My youngest daughter is just now finding this out. She planted 8 plants 8 inches apart instead of 8 feet apart as stated on the package. This melon patch is getting huge and is covering about 56 sq ft.

Same here I wanna try growing some watermelons inside. I'm curious if they do require 12/12 to flower or not. I would love to try to grow them in hydro.

I hope you get some melons! But isn't it counter productive to grow something in equipment you're trying to keep clean and pest free? I dont really know anything about indoors, I'm just wondering.

I had pumpkins under some T12s for a few months this year, and they had tons of flowers but never any fruit. I had them on 18/6 the whole time. Idk if that info helps or not... lol
