Indoor smell control

Have just harvested latest indoor tent grow. Tent is 32"x32", three plants max. The smell permeated the house even though I have a filter and the tent is in the garage. The filter and tent are only 9 months old. Figure I need a better filter and need suggestions. My setup is a 4"duct and have a strong (I think) exhaust fan.
Thanks

Perhaps the fan is too strong for the filter? If it's pulling air thru the filter too fast then it doesn't have enough exposure time to remove the odor effectively. A speed controller would slow down the airflow and perhaps solve the problem.

Another option is a scrubber running in the tent with the weed, recirculating air through a filter. I use scrubbers in my rooms, if they are off you can smell my house at the curb lol. If running you can't even smell the plants standing right next to them.

The edges of some filters allow air leaks ... A caulk or sealant could help with those leaks allowing air to only pass through the filter

A filter on the intake and exhaust might help ... Especially if the fan is too powerful for the filter

A can't see how a filter on the intake would help, better to set any additional filter up as a scrubber with it's own fan, now that would really knock down the odor in the tent and make the exhaust filters job easy peasy.

For a powerful scrubber you want a filter and fan combo that can the volume of the tent at least once a minute.

I don’t think cheap filters work well at least not the vivosun I’ve tried. I use Can filters and they work well. The most important part is that the air leaving the filter go outside the house. I have been trying to just vent back into the house and it works for the most part when filters are new but right after chopping or a year of filter running the smell will hit ya in face when walking into the house. I am in the process of redoing everything atm though and have a brand new can filter that is huge I hope that solves the problem, also cutting a hole to vent to attic until I can buy C02 gear then just gonna run a scrubber in the room as it’s sealed up really well. Any smell escaping st that point will be pulled out theu veg closet and carbon filter in there which I will be replacing with a can 66. For your size tent I would think a can 33 would be a good choice.

I think I was misunderstood here ... I didn't mean filter the air coming into the tent ... But instead a filter on each side of the exhaust fan ... One inside the tent sucking and and then one outside of the tent filtering out that air a second time

But after further consideration I might be wrong ... I don't think they are as effective when being blown through

Phresh and Phat make the best filters. I have some that I have had running for over 5 years non stop as scrubbers and they still work as good as the day i bought them, Way longer than any other brand I have tried including Can.

also cutting a hole to vent to attic
Be careful venting warm humid air into the attic, in cold weather it will condense on the bottom of the plywood sheeting and cause black mold. Not a good time.

Ahh that makes more sense lol, not a bad idea at all. I still think a scrubber would be more effective tho.

Hmm i wonder about that. I don't see why that would pose a problem. Got me wondering now, maybe I am missing something.

By scrubber you're talking about the charcoal cannisters right?

I'm unaware of another filter for odor control so maybe we're talking about the same thing or maybe I'm just not knowledgeable about filters/scrubbers

As of now, I’m unable to vent outside, may get serious and try to vent outside this summer. Not sure what a scrubber is, where it goes and what it costs. Thought a better filter may be the answer. The one I have came in a kit from Amazon.

I just mean a carbon filter hooked to a fan sitting in the tent, sucking air from the tent thru the filter and just blowing it back in the tent. This just keeps re-filtering the air in the tent and really kills odor bigtime.

I used to have this problem too, usually around harvest time. I augmented my grow area with a spare 6'' fan/filter that just recycles the air. I turn it on when I'm smoking or trimming and it does a fantastic job at eliminating the odors.

I blow through mine. No problems no smell. I was sucking through it at one point but it was too cumbersome to hang it in the tent. Removed it to free up space and now blow through the filter outside the tent instead. Works the same. Although I think mine is starting to clog up even though it’s only a few months old. It’s Vivosun canister, they do not do well with humidity. They clog really quickly. My try a better brand when this one shits the bed.

I have a 39x39 with 3 plants in flower right now using a 4 inch carbon filter to suck all the air from my tent through it and out to the room, these is 0 smell. Make sure you have your exhaust pulling enough air that your tent creates a negative pressure (makes the tent walls bow inwards) if you don't do this a lot fo smelling air will escape through the cracks and it'll be like you don't have a filter and just reek

Yeah had already thought of that this is a temporary solution until I get my C02 equipment lights and AC have wiped out the funds. Also since it’s warming up outside I figured it would be okay for a couple months.

Thanks all for the education, will start with Phresh filter and then vent outside as plan b. Just have to appease the wife.

Ohh that smell, basement grow, what ya think happens when furnace kicks on?lol. I love it. Wifey doesn’t mind, it’s legal in michigan. So piss on the , “you have what growing in the basement”? Yeah and I got one plastic knee, and half a left foot, so deal with it. Love those gummies

I have a 4x4 in flower and the smell has taken over my house. Tent is in a closed off room with the exhaust running through 25 ft. of insulated ducting to another area of the basement. I've got a carbon filter w/ speed controller in the tent and dishes of Ona sitting in front of the other end of the duct. Fuck it's strong, I like it, but I'm afraid I'm going nose deaf and don't want to send my daughter to school smelling like a hash bar. Think I'll try filtering both ends of the duct and leaving some space for a scrubber next time around.
