yeah im lookin to get alot of weed from as many plants as i can grow in a basement. right now im broke and i have flourescent lights a bunch of them, is it a good idea to grow weed with those ??

ahh flourescent lights will be fine for the veg period.. just make sure you have enough money for a High Pressure sodium light for the flowering stage.

so basically if i want alot of buds i need a 1000 watt metal halide light, its gonna run me around 200 dollars unless i can find a store that sells them and steal a couple. how many 1000 watt lights would i need per plant?

First how big is your grow area?

2x2 100 watts = 25w/sqft
3x3 250 = 27w/sqft
4x4 400 = 25w/sqft
6x6 600 = 17w/sqft
8x8 1000 = 16w/sqft

Sorry, Lady, I need to interrupt your excellent answer. (Life Lesson, guys: when correcting a woman always compliment her several times first 8) )

I added the w/sqft info in your quote to easily show what we need to look for in lighting a crop. The amount of watts that you are putting over each foot of canopy space is the easiest way to compare lighting. And we know from experience that you need at least 40w/sqft to grow decent plants to maturity.

Yeah, Mogie, I laughed out loud at that kid in the basement playing video games comment! he he

So if 40 watts per sq ft is good is 80 better?, enough better to opt for? what about 160. Ive got 75 per square ft, a 250 mh and a 150 compact flourescent and 6 sq ft, 6 plants. My ph must be off as I don't think they're flowering correctly, at least not fast enough!

Yes, 80w/sqft is better, and what you have is 67w/sqft, however 150w of it is flouro, which doesn't have the same intensity.

I've read that it tops out around 100w/sqft, but I'm sure some folks have tried more.

yeah its a basement man i donno how big it is but i could prolly put 40 pots in there and throw seeds in each pot. im a rookie to this game n i need money so if i get 1 metal halide light that is 1000 watts any hang it from my cieling how many plants should i have for each light

i would not start out a grow by stealing equipment, karma is a bitch. start with a 400w or 600w and grow from there.

1st off use square pots, not round ones. However many you can fit in a 8x8 area. Probably 60. Only half will be female so you will end up with 30 pots. 1 seed per pot, not seeds per pot.

can i use a 50 watt grow light that comes wit a clip anger from home depot for vegg stage an then buy lik 5 more for its flower and bud stage

It says 1500 watts on the ballast, supposidly it uses 150 watts and puts out 1500 watts worth of light, does this sound reasonable? It's one of those about a foot long with 6 U shaped tubes coming out of it!

A compact florescent light. LIghts dont put out watts they put out lumens. THat doesnt make sense. Why not just use a MH or HPS?

I also have a MH 250Watt, The flouro is just for extra, I know I should get an HPS and change out my MH but I'll wait untill my aero grow for that! I'm also using 2 30-100 spiral flouros. for flowering and another 2 spirals plus 2-3' flouros for clones and veg. I sort of came in the back door and started buying more lights as the grow progressed!

Omfg did he say steal it lol..... i think they will notice a 25 pound ballast in your pants.... might be easier to rob a bank and buy some herb
