Indoor Ebb N Gro: NYPD and AK-48 from Nirvana (plus a couple of wildcards...)

We've been working on our grow room on and off for the past month or so. We just recently moved into a 4 bedroom house (it's just me and my honey) and we knew from the start that we were going to try and get up and growing. We decided on using the 10x10x8 bedroom which conveniently happens to have its own bathroom, yay! We framed off a 4x10 area for flowering, and the rest of the room will be used for vegging/reservoirs/etc.

The flower room (4x10) will have:
  1. Lumatek Digital Ballasts (2)
  2. 1000W HPS (2)
  3. Sun Systems Magnum XXXL 8" Reflectors (2)
  4. C.A.P Ebb & Grow System (24 sites max, although we realize that may be overly optimistic) - Actually, the thought is to have not one but two Ebb and Grow systems, each with 12 buckets, flowering one month apart from each other so we have a harvest of 12 plants every month.
  5. The walls and ceiling are completely covered in panda paper, with the exception of the AC vent.
  6. This is a completely closed-off system, so hopefully C02 won't be too much of a headache. This is our first grow and we've spent a pretty penny already, I really hope we don't have to worry about CO2 just yet.
  7. Phresh Filter 4" x 12" 200cfm + 4" HydroFarm fan, purely for scrubbing.

We drilled an 8" hole in the plywood frame for intake. Inside of the flower room this is connected to 8" insulated ducting (better I think, but it just looks so much more bulky) from Home Depot.

There will be another 1000 watter in the flower room (when it's actually used for flowering), so the ducting isn't quite "photo-ready" and finished, seeing as we'll have to cut it open to add the second light.

The plan is to exhaust the heat from the lights into the rest of the 10x10 room. If that turns out to be too hot, we'll vent it up into the attic.

This is fresh air intake with a backflow preventer. We're hoping that the air scrubber will have enough pull to suck in fresh air from the outside room. Plus the ac vent is in the flower room, so we'll have fresh air intake coming in that way.

Vegging:
  • Lumatek Digital Ballast
  • Digilux MH Bulb
  • Sun Systems Magnum XXXL 8" Reflector
  • Ideally, we'd like to use a tent for vegging (really like the idea of closed systems). For the set-up we have, we are not totally sure which size tent would be best. 4x4? 4x6? We'd like to have 2-4 moms and 12-14 plants vegging. We're open to tent suggestions!
  • A flood table that fits inside of whatever size tent we get. Again, open to suggestions! :)
  • For ventilation, we will pretty much have the same set-up as our Flower room, except we might use the 200cfm Phresh Filter in Veg and upgrade to the 400-550cfm Phresh Filter for Flower.

Since this is our first grow and we're starting from scratch, it's going to be a little while before our set-up is being utilized to its fullest potential. Please bare with us in the meantime... Currently, we'll be using the flower area for both veg and flower. I mean, we have 2 bag seeds who have just now started vegging and we're germinating 3 NYPD and 3 AK-48s (fem. from Nirvana). The plan is to pull the three best looking girls to be mothers (assuming one of the bag seeds is both good-looking and female) and veg them under T5s while flowering the other 4 (possibly 5) ladies until harvest. These will sort of be a test run, with the clones from the moms being the first real crop.

This is the better looking of the two... They had a rough start, but they're doing so much better now.

Speaking of Clones... We made our own EZ Cloner (aeroponics) out of a 31 gallon Roughneck container with room for 60 clones. We started out with an 18 gallon Roughneck, but we cut 2" holes for 2" inch neoprene inserts... Ooops! Ah well, the new and improved idea is to cull the weak ones and only veg the strongest, healthiest baby girls... Unlike China.

So, to break it down:

  • Clones are rooted in the EZ Cloner for 2 weeks
  • Rooted clones moved into veg tent for 2 weeks
  • Moved to Flower #1 for 1 month
  • Moved to Flower #2 until harvest (obviously we don't actually have to move the plants... Just change the nutes. We're not TOTAL newbs. Well, technically we are, but we've done a lot of research!)

All in all, I think it's a workable plan. I think a 2lb harvest every 30 days is definitely attainable. Questions, comments, suggestions, criticisms are all welcome. Thank you for taking the time to check this out!

wow awsome set up man, very jelous, currently on my first grow indoors, so im subrcribed this is very informative!

Just ordered an 8" Can Max Fan and a fan controller on eBay. Pretty sweet deal, only $220 for both brand new in box. We also took advantage of Nirvana's Weekend Whopper and ordered 5 feminized White Widow seeds, they should be here in about 8 days. The NYPD and AK48 seedlings have all breached the surface, with the NYPD towering over the AK48s, interesting! The bag seed baby girls (hopefully) are looking gorgeous with lots of lush new growth. I'll take pictures after this Zephyr bag and dinner. :)

Great looking set-up there big mind. I'm also growing 5 Ak-48s, and 1 NYPD. Had trouble getting the NY's to germ 1/5. Really impressed with your set-up, and looking forward to your progress. Happy Growing, Subbed:weed:
