Indication of Plant SEX?

Hey guys, I was wondering if having a plant that grows very short and bushy during vegetative phase is indicative of a female. I have a plant at 2 weeks now that is growing really short and fat and I'm praying that it ends up being female.

Uh-oh man, a lotta people are going to give you shit for this question (Sexing questions are all pretty much already answered somewhere on RIU). But, no. It's not an indication of Male or Female, it's moreso an indication of Sativa or Indica. Sounds to me like an indica dominant.

Short and fat? Sounds like you're doing everything right. No indication of stretching so they have adequate light. A bushy plant means a healthy plant. Sounds like they're getting the water and nutes they need. Good job! :D

alright thanks guys. Sorry if its a stupid question but I've been using the book Grow Buds For Less by SEEMOREBUDS and he states that short stout growth is a good sign that a plant will be female but obviously not a definite because males tend to grow taller and skinnier. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

If a plant is in seedling stage is it too early to sex cuz I still have 1 plant thats a seedling. And also if you stress a plant is it more likely to turn out male or hermie or is it all in the genetics? Thanks for the replies.

Basic botany: MJ will not show sex until mature. The happens ~5-8 weeks from seed regardless of the light cycle and evidenced by alternating nodes and pre flowers.

You just need patience, not changing light cycles.

There is a lot of BS in books an on the internet about growing. This is one of those bs items. All short and bushy indicates is that you have good growing conditions.

this is not true. The plant does not have to be sexually mature. All it takes to show sex on a photoperiod plant is to put it on a 12/12 light cycle and it will start flowering. I personally wouldn't put them on 12/12 just to see sex and then switch back to veg though, that is just a waste of time and stress on the plant that it doesn't need.

Suggest you read MARIJUANA BOTANY by Rob C. Clarke, or, any botany book for that matter.

I'm not going to argue or get in a pissing match over known facts. But, if you were correct, a seed grown under 12/12 would flower the first week rather than 5 or 6 weeks later, when it reaches maturity.

I have never grown 12/12 from seed, so I cannot comment on that. But I do know for a 100% PROVEN fact that if you put a seedling just a few days old under 12/12 lighting it will start flowering immediately, regardless of what you "read" in some book. There are so many MJ books out that that are filled with bs and misinformation it isn't funny.
