In search of the best old school skunk genetics

Here lately, I’ve been reminiscing of some of the strains I used to come across when I was younger, back home in the Seattle area. There was a LOT of northern lights going around, but I also remember early to mid 90a, there was a particularly pungent skunk pheno that used to knock me right out. It had a very strong burnt rubber smell to it, I remember opening the sack in my bedroom in the back, and my dad coming running downstairs not even 5 minutes later because he could smell it from upstairs. However, a lot of the skunks I’ve tried in recent years, seem to either be a completely different pheno or just really muted.

my question for the good people of these forums, which breeders out there have skunk genetics closest to the skunk of the old days. I don’t mind running some s1 seeds until I get the pheno I’m looking for, or if there’s a hybrid out there that mimics the skunk of old, that would be even better. would like to stick with fems and prefer a domestic breeder (USA).

thanks in advance for your help!

There's a multi-page thread on this very topic. The synopsis is that the old RKS and most skunk's are gone (at least from the public, potentially a few people have it stashed away). A few breeders such as @strayfox gear is attempting to bring it back, as well as others. As for a pheno hunt, I've heard good things about AK Bean Brains having good skunk crosses; so thats where I would look. Happy hunting.

awesome, I’ve been recommended a strain of AKBB here recently too and the name escapes me, but it looks likeI might need to send a couple hundred bucks their way!

Ive been adding to my AKBB collection as well. I just picked up some Romulan and Matanuska Thunderfuck to go with Hawaiian Catpiss, NL5 x NL5 and Skunk1 x Super Skunk. The latter seems like it will be a Skunk1 bx.

Does anyone know if AKBB has fems available anywhere? Not a dealbreaker per se, but with plant limits, it makes me want to look around more first.

I dont believe AKBB has fems, none that I have seen at least. But, I really like @Useful Seeds for his Fems; he has an Appalacian x Bag of Oranges (BOO is his own creation), and some phenos have an Orange Skunk pheno which are really nice. Another one I haven't tried but has good reports is his Old School Skunk x BOO. A downside of plant limits when running reg's is you will get males; unless you get incredibly lucky. But with that being said, you can always pop 6 regs; and usually in veg, males will show sex. Cull those males, if you dont plan on breeding, then just LST your remaining fems to fill your canopy. A bonus with fewer fems in the tent is that you can clone your favorite fem and then your next cycle just clone from that clone and now you know you're getting fems AND you know exactly how she'll turn out. Other benefits include a reduction in veg time (I find it can shave off 2 - 3 weeks going from a clone when compared to a seed). Plus with a clone, youre going get uniform growth due to them being identical so it should be less maintenance to keep a uniform canopy.

I’ve got multiple tents running, and my goal is to pheno hunt, so it would be ideal to avoid males altogether. I’ve actually got some of Useful’s stuff in one of my tents right now, running his Orange Cookies x Choc Diesel, and I’ve got some of his chocolate s1 and Chocolate x ChemDog 91 waiting in queue too. I’ve seen where he’s ran some skunk crosses, I’ll have to try and check those out for sure. I love old school growers like Useful, both my father and uncle were growers when I was growing up,so I have an appreciation for the old school cats.

Solid , I vaulted those also . Though picks to run next out of that line up .

Op, He has a very good skunk line up if you get his full list and it would get old school father approval .
