yeah, the cat gets stoned all the time so i don't see why it has to go and eat my plants.

bottom line: DONT LET CAT NEAR YOUR GROWROOM.

so all the plants took the flushing and took it well. within the week i'll be lst'ing and then repotting for flower. i'll be starting a journal after 1st week of flower so if anybody is interested in it it'll be in the journals section. thanks for the help thus far.

5.8? your the first to tell me to have the PH that low...i ph'd it to around 6.6. it'll lower itself periodically though because of the peat moss.

1tsp of what per gallon?

Sorry that was 1 tsp Epson Salt. And yes for soilless mediums, your PH should be the same as if growing in Hydro. Could explain the nutrient lock-out from having your PH too high.

No, the runoff PH was really low, in the 4's. i flushed it with water that was ph'd to 7.4 until it stopped around 6.6 runoff.

I was foliar feeding w/ epsom but they're looking better now. LST today.

looks like possibly phosphorous deficiency. try jamaican guano. or anything with high phos.

Sorry if I missed the fact your growing in soiless medium. If thats the case your ph should run about the same as hydro 5.4-6.2 range.

damn so that means i ph'd it too high. that's alright i'm just gonna leave it, it'll steadily lower itself.

i didn't realize that growing in peat moss was considered "soilless"...

alright, this doesn't make any sense to me. if anybody has some good knowledge, PLEASE, let me know because this is starting to aggravate me.


i bought PRO-MIX ULTIMATE ORGANIC soil.

not PRO MIX BX.


it's contents are of the following:

-65-75% sphagnum peat moss by volume

-Sea-based Compost (from composted shrimp shells & seaweed)

-Limestone (for pH adjustment)


A couple questions come to mind:


a. If limestone is a PH buffer and raises the PH to around 7.0, wouldn't that put the PH out of the "soilless" or hydro range(5.4-6.2) ?

b. how often do i water a "soilless" mix? more often than soil, or less?

c. Assuming what i've learned is true, lime eventually runs out. could the lime possibly run out in the first few weeks and force the PH to turn very acidic, as the peat moss is acidic in the first place?


the more and more i read the less this is making sense to me. why would promix add lime to something that requires a ph under 6.2? why would this mix require me to go by the hydroponic PH scale?

i've ph'd all of my plants to around 6.5 and they're doin better. i just want to understand better the concept of lime and peat moss, how they work together and how long it takes until you need more lime.

if the above is untrue and i don't need any lime at all, should i just let the ph drop back into the high 5's and try to keep it around there?

I use a coco blend and add lime. If I wasn't a stoner I could remember how it works. I'll see If I can find the braek down. I would guess there adding for what ever is making your ph drop. lime is a buffer. It helps hold the ph level so if you use a ph of 5.8 it would rise a little then level off or something to that effect. lol like I said I'll try to find beter info for you.

alright...sounds good. i've been searching for peat moss/ph problems and anything related for quite some time and for some reason there's very little info on it....i would think that this would be the biggest issue when growing in peat.


that's cool you're growing in coco. i was reading up on it, and it seems pretty foolproof as the ph doesn't really need to be changed as it comes out of the bag 6.5-7.0. it'll probably be my choice for next grow,as this peat has been giving me issues since the 2nd week. if the PH had never dropped for any reason my plants would look WAY better, and that i am sure. that was the whole reason i chose pro-mix in the first place, actually....to have that lime buffer so i wouldn't have to worry about ph. ironic.

small update on this thread...just watered after all the flushing, and the runoff PH is now @ 7.5. too high. im about to give up on this peat moss. it's not worth it. goes from fucking 3.8 to 7.6 ph?

I feel your pain OP. Promix is absolute crap. My two week old seedlings started becoming nitrogen deficient at 13 days old, and also developed brown spots just like yours on the lowest two sets of leaves on one of them. I use R/O water with Cal/Mag plus, so baffles me how it might be a magnesium deficiency unless im overwatering.

I too am confused by it being a soilless medium but having added lime. I read it was good for newbies, but I really dont think it is. Good for newbies is some Fox Farms Happy Frog. Fuck peat moss.
