I'm here to Help, or at least Try.

Hi Hubert,
today I tried my first fimming. I tried to follow the instructions I found in some threads. I posted some before and after pics on my journal (post #115 https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/58850-my-first-attempt-help-suggestions-12.html)
Will you please take a look at them and tell me what you think?? I hope I did this right and that I didn't do anything to harm my plant.
thanx
I'd like to help, but as far as I'm concerned FIM is an inexact science. It seems more like a hit and miss, trial and error type of thing...hence the term FIM, or 'Fugg I Missed' I have tried FIM a number of times on non MJ plants, never very successful though and I never had the courage to try with my MJ plants after all the failed attempts. One day I'll give it a go, after I see how yours turn out that is

sounds like a good idea...lol
for the next couple of days I'm gonna be very curious and anxious to see what will pop from the point I made the cut. I hope I didn't do anything stupid. I mean it's just like topping but cutting only the newest growth. As soon as there's new growth coming out, I'll post new photos on my journal. Stay tuned to see how it develops...(and keep your fingers crossed....lol)

I've got a few questions....Is anyone familiar with Jasmonic Acid? (needs discussion IMO) And how many of you are using UVB lights? Oh wait...one more, Ehylene Gas...anyone tried it?

looked it up. never thought about using it.
Ethylene is known to affect the following plant processes (Davies, 1995; Mauseth, 1991; Raven, 1992; Salisbury and Ross, 1992):

  • Stimulates the release of dormancy.
  • Stimulates shoot and root growth and differentiation (triple response)
  • May have a role in adventitious root formation.
  • Stimulates leaf and fruit abscission.
  • Stimulates Bromiliad flower induction.
  • Induction of femaleness in dioecious flowers.
  • Stimulates flower opening.
  • Stimulates flower and leaf senescence.
  • Stimulates fruit ripening.

at what point would you use it? seems like it would be flammable
Leave bananas, apples, berries, or whatever near your plants. Most people leave them there for a couple of weeks around week 5 of veg, around the time pre-flowers might start popping out. I would imagine letting them stay there longer, or be there sooner wouldn't hurt any though.

thanks i'll try that my grow is in day 30. you may be able to explane this. why when all plant were started at the same time. I have a few that are abuot 8" and others are 2" with very little growth the 8" are very bushy this is all bag seed. my first grow i started 6 plants looking for females and got one. this time i started 20 and have 19 now hope for a few more girls

Are they all the same strain as far as you know? That, among other things could explain it. Even if they are, not every seed will have the exact same traits...some may thrive in heat, while others may not for example.

Good luck on your upcoming grow!

Happy 420 every one just thought i would edit this as i didnt think it was very well informed
i planted my 6 2pounders today i have them under a 600 and 400hps
do you think this is too much heat isnt an issuie really but can to much light hurt young plants

'lollypopping' your plant
Is "lollypopping" something that can be done when the plants are already 5 days into flowering or would I have needed to cut off the bottom branches sooner?

Also, if it's not too late, do I cut off all of the bottom branches and just leave the top?

alright im just getting started for the first time ive read everything from almost every source and none seem to answer the basic questions or they confused me somewhere during the writing

ive seen things like CO2 and nitrogen help the plants grow but then ive seen alot of people saying dont put chemicals in with them or anything. I work at a plant store so if i could get CO2 and Nitrogen should i put them in and do they both help.

How Can i tell when the male plants are spurting pollen. Do i just rip them out if they dont have the little hairs and after about how long would it take for the hairs on a female to show up

How many seeds could i plant in a 12 foot by 6 foot plot of soil

should i dig up the soil and mix in some compost with the soil and then plant or just leave it natural soil.

also on average how much water do you give a plant each time you water it.

for an average potentcy plant how much output do you get
ounce, two ounce, half ounce?

just some basic questions

How young are they? It isn't really a question of will it hurt them, as much as is it neccessary? Probably not, I'd start them under one of those lights for now, and throw the other one at them when they get a little bigger.

It's never too late to lollypop, but the point of it is usually to pack alot of plants into a small space. Your question makes it seem like that's not the case for you, and if it's not other types of training would probably help you alot more.

Both nitrogen and CO2 are essential for plant growth, you will need to add nitrogen. CO2 supplementation is another matter, it is not neccessary to add CO2...the levels in the air will keep your plant thriving. CO2 supplementation really only helps when it is the cause of photoinhibition, the limiting factor so to speak. That only happens when every other contributing factor is 'outperforming' the CO2, for that to happen you basically need ideal conditions...maximum lighting, max fert uptake, and so on.

You will be able to see pollen on your fan leaves in all likelyhood, male flowers will appear before female flowers. Generally speaking it takes about 2 weeks to determine sex after the switch to 12/12. However, if you have vegged long enough you will likely start seeing pre-flowers after 5-6 weeks of veg.

Usually you want to keep your plants at least a couple of feet apart, so in a 12x6 area you could probably put 10-15 maybe even 20 plants if you keep them under control.

As far as your soil, I would definetely mix in some compost and maybe find some manure to mix in as well. It's hard to say how much to water them, you'll kind of have to feel that one out for yourself.

The only thing limiting your yield is how you grow it, the potency of the pot the seeds came from holds no bearring on how they will turn out IMO

I have a question I heard you only add co2 during flowering but I do not see why it wouldn't help during vegging couldn't I add some during the whole process?

Also can you add too much co2?

I have some seeds in some grow cubes should I give them light or just keep them in darkness? They are on a heated matt.

CO2 will promote faster growth in both veg and flower...but only if it is the limiting factor in your growroom. There is always what they call a 'Photoinhibitor' and that means there is always a limiting factor. It is very unlikely you'll see a significant improvement in your yields unless you have already maximized your lighting.

Yes you can add too much CO2, I don't know the exact level that it becomes harmful but I'd think anything in excess of about 1700ppm would be getting pretty risky.

If the seeds are still 'underground' so to speak they don't need any light, as soon as they pop there heads up give them at least 18 hours of light per day.
