I'm growing outdoors directly out of the ground in las vegas anyone else doing the same

ok so I dug up holes big holes and filled them with organic potting mix earth worm castings and vermaculite I have mulch on top the ground to keep the plants cooler during the summer theyre doing really good but the roots are growing up over the mulch and basically pulling the mulch down into the roots like the plants eating it is this good or bad this is my first outdoor grow i usually grow hydro indoors but wanted to save some money anyone else dealing with these hot climates let me know what you guys do and if this is bad or good the plants seem to be happy

Vegas? Lucky u. I'm in Massachusetts and I'm trying to figure out what to do to keep my plants from getting moldy in Sept oct

Growing in Central Valley CA 100 degrees plus no problems
