your mistake is thinking your going to get root rot when you dont even have roots yet. You cannot let it dry out you killed it plain and simple. Next time just put the seed in the soil about the depth of the seed itself which is barely. Keep the soil nice and wet and it will pop and then afterwards do not let it dry out. There is no need to germinate in the paper towel and you had the seed popped and then dropped the ball by not watering. Nature is not so careful it rains like shit and gets the seed wet as fuck and then it pops in nature and there are no paper towels in nature. Sometimes I even lay the seed on top of soil so I can take spray bottle and wet the hell out of it and I check twice a day to make sure it does not DRY out. Covering the cup with cardboard helps too so the light does not hit the seed yet, but you do want the warmth. ONce I see the seed pop (normally 1-2) days I then take a toothpick and poke a hole and carefully point the tap root down into the hole. Better to just bury the seed lightly and letting it reach for the surface, just remember to only bury less than 1/4 inch or it wont find surface. Good luck and dont give up!!

Your mistake was that you didn't water it. Don't worry about the root rot because there are no roots to begin with at this stage. Give it lots of water next time and you'll be on your way to grow some bud.

Last time I posted a picture of this in the Problems forum someone told me it was root rot and to stop watering when I planted them -.-

Advice ( in the previous thread ready-plant-pic-inside ) was good, but the watering all depends on the soil, gotta keep it moist. I like to keep my seedlings almost totally wet, and lower the humidity slowly. But these days I use rapid rooter plugs and a humidity dome for seeds, perfect results.

i dont know why someone would tell you not to water your seedling for a week. sounds mad to me. at that age they need moist soil all the time. how do you germinate? your root looks a little brown. i just fold a parer towel and put in on a plate. wet the towel and put the seed on top[/ fold another paper towel and cover the seed with it and wet it also, but not sopping wet. then cover with another plate and put in a warm spot. seeds should be ready in as little as 24 hours and as long as 2 weeks. also keep your light close, lke a few inches away. how did it die? did it grow at all? hope this helps.

That would be the easiest way, no hassle at all. I think that paper towel method speeds up the whole process by a day or so. But if you go straight into the soil you can't do any wrong. Bury it not too deep and please water it!

Just throw the seeds about 3mm into the soil and water, the paper towel method is completly unnecessary, as had been said before nature doesnt need to do any of that.

I like to leave the light on, so I can see what the little things are doing. Until the seed case breaks, it doesn't really matter. Just don't put them right next to a 600W or anything like that. CFLs are ideal for the first stages.

I've got a 250w CFL I can hang in there

dont over do it with water tho too....i did that with seedlings and just drowned it just keep it moist but not soaked and i use jiffy pellets just cause there easier to transplant when they are ready and i learned with jiffy pellets is when you soak it in water to expand it once its expanded squeaze it alittle to get some of the water out i didnt do this the first time and my seedlings just rotted they can rot but they need water

no nature doesnt but you have a better chance getting it to germinate if you do use the paper towel method pretty much guarented the seed will root doing the paper towel method
