I'm desperate . Seedlings won't mature

3 days. 3 bag seed. 3 duds. My good seeds will be here soon and I can't even friggen germinate a seed. Just using regular back yard dirt, diy germ tank. The tops won't open up, often leaving half of the seed shell on. Using 2 60watt led bulbs.

Yeah, backyard dirt SMH. Nice way to import bugs, poor way to grow your plants.

Don't use the seeds you paid good money for until you can get some proper soil.

Germinate by soaking seeds in water for 24 hours, then into a wet paper towel in a ziploc bag. If you set them on top of a warm (not hot) appliance like a refrigerator they will sprout faster, no hotter than 90F, I like 87F for sprouting beans. Check every 12 hours for sprouts! Plant sprouts with the tap root down (in proper seedling/starter mix). Don't over water, let the soil dry so the pot feels light before watering again. No food until they get the first multibladed leaves then start easy.

I have happy frog and ocean forest. Others say use backyard dirt. The one with perlite is HF. Forgot. Gonna use terrA fiber cubes with good seeds.

So aside from grow medium, because I've tried HF and regular dirt, no one can help? All these "pros" and no help?

The seed heads will get stuck if you have low humidity.

Hope that clears that up for you.

Also someone mentioned poor oxygen in your soil.

The could also be too wet which will drown the tap root.

I just got a spray bottle I'll start using. I have a dyi germinator that's a bit humid. Keep em in there until leaves open? I took them out soon as I saw em sprout..

First and foremost..Don't beat yourself up too hard if bagseed doesn't germinate..It might not be viable..Second, I concur, make sure you use some decent soil..Additionally, I too use a zip lock to germinate...soak a piece of paper towel..squeeze the crap out of it till pretty much dry place seed in and seal up..put in dark place..for your temps, you're fine..I typically avoid putting on warm appliances..just my preference.I typically try to stay away from too much heat >80 as fungus can destroy them..again make sure paper towel is squeezed of excess water..it should not be dripping..Once sprouted, (2-5 days typically)plant tap root down 1/4 inch in soil...place light close to soil..you want heat from the light you are initially using as this is how the plant will know which direction to surface...led's should work, but put them closer to the soil...Be sure to watch for seed breaking through soil as LED can harm them if to close..GL..You'll be fine..If you're concerned still, sprout your new seeds one at a time..sprouting a new one each time you have success, so you don't wreck all your seeds ..just in case you are doing something wrong.

Good luck

You can also skip all that 24 hr soak and paper towel bullshit. I use rapid rooter plugs and they work great. I soak my beans for 2 or 3 hrs then put them in the rapid rooters point down. Then take a little chunk of the plug and cover up the hole. I planted 20 seeds a couple weeks ago and ended up with 19 seedlings. The one that didn't pop was a bagseed from a bag of gg4. That could be another issue you're having. Bagseed isn't exactly ideal....tho ppl have had luck with them. Good luck with your new beans.

Yeah keep them in there until the seed comes off. Then take them out.

Don’t keep misting them - that’ll kill them to.

Once and day ‘fesh fesh’ and be done with it.

Then once they are out keep it around 60-70% humidity and they’ll be happy :)!

Thanks guys, all great advice. I've never done the paper towel method either. Pointless step. I will use all your advice and lyk how it goes. Seeds should be here very soon, just got an email from ups. Means they made it to the states:)

Use the ocean forest or happy frog, water plant and step away for a week.

Until you have the basics you will most likely fail - from a pro :-)

It always makes it to the states hahaha whether or not your seeds make it to your mailbox is a different story. If they don't make it see about a refund and shop at a seedbank here in the states. There's several to choose from now.

Whoever says to use backyard soil is wrong. I wouldn't use the FF soil for germination as it's pretty hot. Just go buy some cheap potting mix and use for seedlings. Moisten it, and plant the seed directly in to it. Not very deep. Mist the top of the soil to settle it, and put a zip lock bag over it. Keep in a warm place, and it will come up in about 3 days. Works every time if your seeds are viable.
