I'm an Old Farmer

Reminds me of my childhood. We had an acre garden that was watered by irrigation. Lot of hard hot work but well worth it. Nice looking garden. :)
 
yes lots of work.i did this with a walk behind tiller and hoe---but it keeps me young--my dad is 83 and goes squaredancing every week.and lawnmower racing every other week.he has his own but lets other drive for him.he hunts here every year.he got 2 deer with muzzleloader and 2 with shotgun last year

squaredancing, thats pretty funky. and the other guy mentioning irrigation, both things make me think of... mid west? ive only been to america once and it was nebraska of all places. the irrigation there blew my mind lol. was funny showing my dad pics of america and out of all the things in the usa i highlight this massive irrigation. but hey what else is there in nebraska apart from corn? squaredancing seems a lil more southern though im not too sure. nebraska seems southern enough to be quite yee-haw even though its only midwest
 
I have issues with goddamn ants everytime I try to grow corn.. Do you just throw the extra produce into freezer bags and store them for the winter or what? What's your technique for keeping stuff longer? I was watching an interesting canning technique on youtube today, do you do that? How long do you usually have fresh vegies?
 
corn you just shuck pull hairs and freeze in freezer bags---peas you shell and put in freezer bags--okra--cup and put in freezer bags---potatoes i dont can--just eat them till they run out---i raised 400 lbs this year---tomatoes we make a sauce for spegitti--soups-etc--peppers we pickle---we make vegtable soups during the cold months--bell pepper s are cut in half ,deseeded and frozen and then- put in bags--this is better than canning --if you can wrong the food will spoil.this way you dont loose anything--as far as squaredancing goes--i play the music on guitar but i dont dance.i play country,bluegrass and rock on guitar.been picking most of my life
 
aslo if you grow herbs {basil and such} chop em up fill ice cube trays half way with the herbs and then fill with water freeze pop em out put em in the bag and presto ! freshish herbs at your disposal year round { like your fish tank irrigator :) } keep it up ! from a young farmer to an old farmer
 
i have fish in it--i pump water on plants weekly for ferts----i only use 1/2 the tank at a time---25 or so gallons then refill--i drain into a 5 gallon bucket and pump it on plants with an old airless paint sprayer without the tip.works great for me!!!
 
the fish tank method with live fish is called aquaponics. its seems like a nice method especially if you raise the fish to eat as well.

your garden looks great man, im surprised you store all that. do you sell your produce at all?
 
oh yes if there is extra--mostly give to friends and family though.nothing like home grown-home cooked food.i choose not to go out and eat because our food is way better!!!!we can throw down cooking ribs and hot wings with a side of corn on the cob, homegrown peas, and homegrown tomatoes with a hot pepper or 2 on the side and of coarse cornbread or biscuits--we like to cook for people also--good to see people enjoy there meal.--all summer its watermellon or cantilope chilled all day winter times are big pots of homemeade veg.soup and cornbread---warms you right up---and apple pie or sweet potato pie on the side
 
Very nice garden Little T...I live in an urban area so my yard is about 20x20... Ill have this house paid off in 13 months, then it's off to the country for me wher I can grow my own fruits and veggies..... Im assuming you grow ganja also...What kind of setup you got? you grow outdoors?
 
i need a giant garden. dude got any advice on tomatoes? mine would flower then get spots when its disease resistant. it turned yellow to fast.
