That's stupid. If they had the means of getting armed people into Illinois, why the hell would they attack a prison then? Seriously, remember what happened in mumbai last year? There are lots of idiot muslim fanatics in indian prisons....why the hell did they go after a city of unarmed civilians instead of the obvious propaganda victory that attacking a prison has, according to you.

This is not a security issue. No one has ever broken in or out of federal supermax. We have prosecuted foreign terrorists in federal court for years and none of the facilities they were held at have been attacked.

Sorry bro. I don't buy into the 9/11 conspiracy b.s. I agree the govt. hasn't been forthcoming with information but I don't think they lied about how many planes there were. I have studied this extensively and have visited all 3 crash sites. (I was at the world trade center digging for bodies and searching for possible survivors less than 24 hours after the crash). I saw the mangled bodies and smelled the jet fuel. I would have to be shown irrefutable proof before I can believe that there were only the 2 planes. I realize that there are a lot of people who believe in the conspiracy and subsequent cover up but this happens every time there is some sort of tragedy of this magnitude. :peace:

If the terrorists thought they could break out or leverage their buddies out by taking hostages they would do it. Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't. 9/11 was a failure of the imagination of sorts. No one would've though that terrorists would've pulled off this sort of attack before 9/11 but here we sit. There are also not the numbers of terrorists being held at other facilities as they are talking about putting in Illinois. And remember that India is not the U.S. There have been attempts on Indian prisons and probably some successful ones. We don't get all of the stories. bongsmilie

There actually have been prison breaks by militants in India, especially kashmir, so that was actually a pretty poor example on my part. I think just yesterday there were some abu sayaaf people who got busted out of jail in the Philippines....but we are talking maximum security federal prison in the center of the US.

According to this logic, instead of attacking the WTC and the pentagon, the 9/11 assholes would have attacked the prison where they put the blind sheik, ramzi yousef and the other shitbags we've captured over the years and sent to federal prison. Also, when we talk about propaganda victories, let's not forget that the abu gharib pictures and gitmo have been the biggest recruitment tools for these assholes, so I do think that treating them fairly and I think that giving them their day in court just like every other criminal will actually help us in the long run. By turning the fight against terrorism into a war and tossing the rulebook, we are helping our enemies.

Believe me bro I have read the 9/11 commission report. There was some intelligence but there were serious gaps and they had no idea what the targets would be. In hindsight it's pretty obvious but like they say, hindsight is 20/20. As I noted in a previous post, there wasn't an abu graib or gitmo detention center when the embassies were bombed in '98, when the cole was bombed in 2000 or when we were hit on 9/11. These people will not be bargained with. And I'm not sure why people are so pissed about gitmo. It's actually a brand new facility and those guys have it as good or better than they would if they were here. The closing of gitmo is politics pure and simple. There will be no net effect on attacks as a result of gitmo closing. I am not paranoid but I think we are not prepared for bringing these guys onto u.s. soil. Many of our prisons are understaffed and are facing serious budgeting shortfalls which in turn is causing repairs to be postponed. Not a good situation. I'm sure the govt. will throw a boatload of cash at the facilities which will hold these guys but still. We've tried to find countries to take a lot of these guys and no one wants them. Not even their own native countries. The thing that bothers me is I know that some of those guys we captured were in the wrong place at the wrong time. This has always been the case with war and unfortunately it will continue. Fog of war. I simply don't want these people on our soil. It's that simple in my eyes. :peace:

You guys are both misunderstanding me....

First off, I know that these people are dangerous and I'm fully aware of the threat that they pose.

I just don't understand why you think that Thompson, Illinois would somehow be a better target than say, Chicago, just because of this prison. I don't understand how our intelligence, security agencies and military are able to safeguard the entire country and our embassies and military installations abroad, but somehow a little town of 600 people is at risk because of a prison...it's ridiculous.

Again, has having international terrorists like the shoe bomber, the blind sheikh, the millenium bomber or the 300 others made florence, colorado any less safe? Because they're all in federal supermax prison there and have been for years....

I'm also not saying that 9/11 could have been prevented based on what we know today and I think it's pointless to speculate about that. All I was saying was that it wasn't something completely out of the blue.

Yes, there were muslim crazies before gitmo and abu gharib and there will be some no matter how fairly we treat these people. You've gotta admit though that there is not better recruitment tool for these groups than those pictures and that we have a lot to gain in terms of credibility if we are consistent with our values and principles.
