It looks like cannabis will be decriminalized in my country next year (still technically illegal to possess and highly illegal to grow without a licence, but no prosecutions for possession) . It's already been decriminalized for the terminally ill and CBD has been legalized. There is a public referendum scheduled for next year for full and unrestricted legalization but I'm not expecting it to become law due to some political technicalities built into the referendum, however looking at the political direction and the momentum that overall decriminalization has taken over just the last five years I would expect complete legalization within the next five years.
My country is highly geographically isolated and we have a low value currency, so buying seeds from the US or Europe is an expensive proposition for the average Joe who wishes to just pop ten or so beans every year.
I've already got a few strains in the bank which are Critical Kush and Mendo Mass from which I am storing seeds and pollen and I've bred a couple myself which are various crosses between Critical Kush, Mendo Mass, Amnesia and White Widow. I'm pretty keen to position myself to become a breeder and start a seed bank when the gates finally open, I've found I can produce several thousand very stable seeds with reasonable effort, so I'm confident I could do it on a small commercial scale.
So the question is, if you had let's say three years to get ready, you had the strains I already have and you wanted to breed up a bunch of strains for a seed bank operation which commercially available strains would you start to acquire now and which ones would you use to create hybrids?
I'm looking for big yielding strains with high THC content, as that's what is in demand here and I would expect that trend to remain in place for quite a while before people really start becoming connoisseurs like they are in legal US states, so I'd like to keep it fairly simple to start with.
Your thoughts?
