i was thinking of throwing a few plants under a veg light and letting them go a few months..how long would you veg to get a plant to produce a lb?

Depends on your lighting conditions per plant, air quality, pot sizes, type of growing medias and nutrients chosen- water and/or soils chosen to name the first few things you havent shared yet.

The longer the veg, the bigger the plants potential; share some of your already chosen methods from the above I started to mention.

Not all strains will produce a pound on a single plant. For the ones that will, I think a good way to put it is you veg them to where you would normally flower them. We usually flower at around 7" and they finish over 2', yielding about a qp trimmed and dry. For a pound, I'd veg to over 2' and let it go in at least 15gal of soil.

Soil vs hydro is a matter of personal preferences.
Hydro grows fastest without a doubt, but is more unforgiving if left unattended and unchecked for its nute (un)balances...

That said, I am working towards the best of both worlds with organic soil and a slow dripper at the same time, with a water timer setting of multiple drip cycles per day, and this will also decrease the amount of water used, and/or needed; which also helps get that "hydro grow" and will add to its faster growth.

I use subcool's supersoil mix on the bottom, and with fox farm ocean forest on top(12.99 a bag for me, I cant beat that price)- just add water and leave the nutes up to the plant to decide on what they wish to draw up and when.
I only give them water their whole way throughout their entire lifecycle.
The central philosophy behind the supersoil mix is to "provide the pool of life, and step back and watch the magic occur all by itself." leaving you nothing to guess or worry about... The Supersoil mix is that pool of life. It keeps a plant balanced, and decreases any chances of it becoming out of balance, and you can also throw away the nute and ph measuring sticks pretty much.

I think going organic soil will make your stuff taste a lot better and reduce any harshness in taste and flavor; and upsizing your pots will allow them to grow bigger. 15's like mothers finest suggested should be close enough. smartpots allow best breathability and reduces the water hold around the root base. Plants kinda stop growing if they stay in soggy conditions. Plastic pots allow no breathability value.

I usually go about 19/5 with my veg cycle, leaves process sugars among other things while they sleep, and everything could use a little shut eye on a regular basis. Sleep rejuvenates all creatures as far as I am aware of.
Some like 24/0 like you are running dont get me wrong, but anything thats alive needs some sleep, is my contention on the subject. I provide somewhere between 3 to 5 hours of sleep for em each night, they stay happy and are always reaching for the sun, provided i do not overwater em.
Glad to see you with RO water also, good choice.

thanks for the info. you think going soil is best for a large plant like that?
Definately. While hydro could of course be done, you'd need to put extra care into supporting the huge, bud-laden plants. In soil, the plant could naturally support itself with enough substrate and a good breeze encouraging stem thickening. Also, hydro is usually more automated and with more automated systems, you usually want to have as many plants making use of them as possible. For example, you'd get much more done for your money if your hydroponic liquid circulation setup was providing for twenty plants instead of one huge one that you could probably even water yourself.

14 to 20 weeks. Indoors. 1000w per plant. Properly trained of course, incorporating topping, LST, Defoliation, and Super Cropping.

400 watt mh 18/6 starting from seed it would take 3 to 4 months of growing LST an Toping plus a very large pot over 10 gallons with the best damn soil money can by period.. After the plants are 3.4 to 5 foot tall you will need to flower... hope your grow room has a 12 foot ceiling....

Those are all important, more importantly, what strain are we talking about?
