Took the plunge with a single 2014 XGS-190 today. Plan to see how it fairs with a 3'x3' scrog grow once my 1000w PPK grow finishes up in about 5 weeks.

I'll be keeping a detailed log with this new light and report back once I know if the A51 koolaid was really worth drinking.

I'm completely confused about the shipping though. The site says pre-order, but I've seen posts by people who've gotten theirs already. No clue when I'll actually get the unit I ordered today, but hoping it's sooner than later.

Looking for LED recommendations
Can't justify high quality with the holidays coming up so I got $200 to blow max!!!

this is for a 32" x 20" tent that I will use for mothers and sometimes supplemental flower/finish ... right now I'm thinking I'm better off getting a general purpose "grow" colored LED and supplementing it with Warm K CFL's when I need flower colors...

-1st thought is a Kessil purple; reasons being it is a "quality/reputable" unit and I can add another later if this isn't enough (or I need another color to supplement bloom) Cons: I'm told its older technology...I dunno

-2nd choice is this DirtGenius 240W ... my issue is its new I think along with lack of reviews or end user input

-3rd choice is this cheapo Apollo off of Amazon (low pice/low risk)

-4th is this Blackstar ... just not sure if its strong enough for the area I need to cover

...if anyone has experiences or opinions about any of those units or other recommendations I'd appreciate it...I already realize quality/more expensive units are better but for what I need can't justify the $$$ at this time

Of the ones listed, I would get the Kessil - but purple only if you are only verging- otherwise go with magenta.

Now for my real advice - save your money for a better panel. Nothing you have listed will cover the area that you want to cover. If you just want to get started with one plant, then if you can stretch it , get the Hans panel.... Or save for longer and get one area51 which will cover the whole grow area

The Kessil, Apollo, and the Blackstar all have extremely small footprints.
The Apollo and Blackstar will cover an 18"x18" at best, and the Kessil, 12"x12".
The Dirt Genius will theoretically cover the largest area, but who knows how it grows, or how long it will last?

Jcmjrt shared some good advise, and I completely agree.
JohnnySocko, don't waste your $200, and set yourself up to fail.
If you try to flower your garden with the lights you listed, you'll probably think LED growing is bullshit, and that we're all brainwashed fanboys.
I don't want to see that happen to you man, nobody here does.

I hate cheap sh*t, but then again I can't/won't convert my crops into cash, so the weed is sorta a money sink & hobby so I kinda/sorta watch how much I spend....

So Kessil it is then (at least I can expand at $150 at a time) ...so for now I'll get one and side light with about 4-6 CFLs till she forget about the cash and I can spend another 130....

I understand what you're saying, many of us are in similar situations.
If you're dead set on the Kessil, you can get them much cheaper here ($97 a piece):

Good luck :)

Glad to hear you took the plunge, you won't be sorry, sir.
At some point, hopefully sooner than later, I'm hoping to replace my current LED lights with the XGS-190.
As for the pre-order situation, I believe it is still pre-order for the general public, but it's available now for RIU members, and those willing to do grow journals.
Here's an example of what I was able to do with my older Area 51 LED light, which only has 3W diodes, compared to your 5W diodes.

Really want to try Eskobar's stuff.....but I heard from tiberon that none of the strains are low odor unfortunately:-( .......bummer
I've grown out Cheeseberry and Chucky's Bride by E$kob@r.
I wouldn't say that either has an overwhelming odor, and the scents that are there, are very pleasant.
Both of my Cheeseberry females smelled similarly of blueberries and fruit, while my keeper Chucky's Bride smells like sweet mangos.

well thank you sir for the info..............fruity smells are ok in my book and easily manageable with a scrubber. Being in a philly apt complex makes my decisions limited for my small closet grows.

Most growers that try this breeder say it's a fantastic end product............your thoughts? and I know you've grown your fair share of canna, so any specifics are appreciated.

Smells and flavors are great, with lots of sugary resin, so "bag appeal" is quite high.
Potency is good, not knock-out or mind blowing, but effective.

Damn.... Amazon; $138
Sounds like you already ordered from Amazon, sorry man, I tried.
At least you know for next time.

I have two Kessil 350s and have been very happy with
their operation. I cannot say how they do alone in flower
as I have always used them to supplement my 600W HPS.

I was also on Kessils site; they claim a 2x2 coverage for the 350's... so anyway after being clue'd in on Growershouse.com I vacillated between one 350 (w/free shipping) for $250 OR 2ea 150's for $200 (shipping incl) ... as I thought about it, the single 350 is a better long term value, but for just experimenting and flexibility I opted for 1ea Magenta, 1 ea purple...
again, probably not the optimal value, but for my auxiliary tent 2 lights are better than 1
