I want to replace a 400w HPS/MH with a LED, how high of a wattage LED do i need to be looking for, also can someone recommend a LED that would replace a 1000w? i will be upgrading in the future.

Please give me some info like :
- bulb degree/angle i need to be looking for
- size of bulbs (wattage of each individual bulb) i should search for
- overall wattage of system
- example of a product i could buy. I dont want low end garbage.

I want a product that will Replace and OUTPERFORM a standard 400W HPS/MH or 1000W System. I am not in this for electricity concerns, im searching LEDs to see if they can provide me a higher quality of light, more light / penetration, more usable frequency etc...

I know LEDs arent really measured off lumens, but i do not want to buy a LED that is putting out less "lumens" than my 400w system does.. does that make sense?

Do me a favor, read the last 5 pages of this thread, it will answer most of your questions.
Now, do yourself a favor, get in touch with Area 51 LED's, you won't be sorry.

Bad Karma, thank you for pointing me in the right direction without hating on me. reading now, appreciate it bro.
You're welcome, sir.
I don't like to hate on people, we were all noobs once, myself included.
I've wasted money on LED's before and I'd hate to see other people do the same.
That's why I hang around the LED section and try to steer people in the right direction.
Good luck :)

Now, to be clear, http://www.advancedledgrow.com is not to be confused with http://www.advancedledlights.com/. Advanced LED Lights has been around for years, they are the ones I am talking about. Advanced LED Grow are no more than some guy capitalizing on Advanced's success and company name. They are not the same.

Real Advanced LEDs are not Eshine. Fake Advanced is.
Aha! That was the source of my confusion. The names are so fuckin close!

I didn't know that Mr Edge was selling his panel. I thought he was just trying to show us that he thinks its ok for the price. Not knowing too much about LED products myself, I wanted to follow his grow to see if he'd get anything from it or not. And since I just started a grow of my own, I thought it would be kind of useful to do a side by side comparison, even though it isn't exactly apples to apples.

I'm not selling anything, I'm defending my newbie purchase this summer which I finally got around to setting up a newbie grow. Eshine says they originally supplied advancedledlights but do not currently. I will take up your suggestion and set up a grow log so we can compare as we go along. So far so good in the seedling stage. I am setting up a sea of green set up in a 2x4x5 Lighthouse Hydro tent in a Rubbermaid 54 gallon tub credit to DrGreenFinger's thread which paid homage to See More Buds here:

You can go here: https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/

Then click the "Post New Thread" button. That's about it. Just start posting and send me the URL for your thread. Remember, if you post pictures here, you want to make sure they don't contain any GEOTAGS or any other metadata included. Otherwise, a lot of us post our pics on Photobucket.com and embed links to them in our posts (in between img ... /img tags). Then you don't need to worry about metadata being exposed here. (You can make your Photobucket pictures private.)

Yeah, I'm a little bit ahead of you, so we'll take that into account. I honestly want to see how well that less expensive LED panel works. I hope it does give you some decent bud. I've learned the hard way that cheaper isn't always cheaper in the long run... sometimes when you buy "cheap" you end up buying a better item after the "cheap" one breaks. Then it's really not so cheap.

BTW, I was able to buy my Area 51 wholesale with free shipping, so probably didn't pay any more than you did. Jeff at A51 gives deals to some people who promise to write grow journals.

Ok, daveroller. I set up the photobucket account. What about security? Just a little cautious about putting up a trail for these activities nowadays with all the NSA crap being exposed. I would like to share and compare but I don't want to do anything to jeopardize me or my family. Can people chase down my identity if I posted grow pictures and stuff?

The only thing you need to do is to make the Album (it's like a folder) that you create on Photobucket Private. Then nobody can see it unless you give them a link to a photo that's in that Album. I don't think that law enforcement can get your identity from Photobucket or rollitup without a warrant. I use Photobucket because the photos show up in your rollitup posts inline without requiring anyone to click on them. And I also previously got bitten by the problem with GEOTAGS being embedded in my photos that I had posted directly on rollitup.

You should start your thread and give us the link to it. Then I'll answer any questions there, so that we don't pollute this thread with those details. OK? I'm curious to see how your grow turns out. I hope you didn't waste your money for your sake, but either way you'll learn something from the experience and so will I. :-)

I don't know if any of you follow oneshot on youtube, but he pulled a nice grow with growblu led(cidly reseller). A light that all of us on here would say fuck no to. But it doesn't have to do with only the growing power. Since tech has caught up Chinese products are performing better than they used to(while they last). But the quality issues are just as present as ever. I don't consider anything a good light if it breaks after the first run...no matter how good that run was.

Watch this video and see what you could be getting into when thinking about cheap china lights.
[video=youtube;zofYtdsvlo8]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zofYtdsvlo8[/video]

Oneshot is a great grower and knows led's...but free and cheap lights can tempt anyone to have poor judgement.

I was all set to buy a Growblu light...........when they work they can give you some good results. If you go to his channel his latest video is about a failure on those very lights. He opens it up and finds the quality is not what he was expecting.
I do think their are some good brands available, but most of these drop shipped Chinese lights is a hit or miss prospect.
At this point I am not going to buy any high end light till this industry stabilizes to the point you can determine what you are getting for that high price tag.

Not stripping off the protective plastic sheet, and instead leaving
it in between the thermal paste and the LEDs made the heat sink
worthless and ensured short life. That was brain dead.

10 pieces of junk or a couple good fixtures like area51 or Hans, Apache etc. You haven't said a thing about your grow but if you've read any of this thread you will see that pretty much no one who actually grows with LEDs will recommend e-bay for fixture purchases; it's cheap for a reason.

I understand that a lot of these manufacturers arecheap crap.I just find it very interesting that their eBay listing isat 100 % and have sold quite a bit.I also understand for the highest yielding best quality bud that led with a high-intensity bulb is important. I also understand that the wattage ran through the equipment is best run as a lesser than maximum do not stress the equipment for longevity reasons.

as for information on our grow, we are a new operation we have about 2800sf of grow space in our facility and will be opening up sometime in March after some building. I'm looking at an initial Expenditure for lights between metal halide and high pressure sodium ballast, housing, etc. some LED lights are just slightly more expensive than the cost per light for each équipement with both bulbs considered. However some of the LED manufacturers while being high quality are just far too expensive if I'm going to be buying 10 to 16 lights. I don't have that kind of capital at the moment. After initial opening, I might be able to expand. But I think it would be a waste of me to buy traditional lighting equipment and then switch to LED later. Its equally as wasteful to buy LED's that will fail and 6 months and do not carry a warranty. I'm less concerned with a cheaper led that may not last 5 or 6 years but does have some sort of warranty against defects on the LED driver and or lights and may have similar quality. if lights I purchase or not made to last I can replace them with better quality lights as they start to fail so long as the product I buy does actually work. So I guess my question is do a lot of these cheaper Chinese LED manufacturers make a product that works, are these just Crap from start to finish? understand that output is a concern in terms of the end product also.

Yes, those ebay LED's are crap from start, to finish.
You will not be happy with the results you get from them.
It is lights like those that give LED's a bad name.

Hate to be a Bad News Bear but, I checked out your journal and I think you're in way over your head.
The system you built is for plants grown from clones with little to no veg time and a lot of defoliation.
That pump/spray setup is going to overheat your water and clog with roots.
The lamp is too small for a 2'X4' by itself.

My advice would be to start/learn by using coco w/perlite in airpots or smartpots. Hand water.
Add more light for flowering.

Hello. So I'm a fairly new medical grower. I've had some very successful grows so far but have been battling heat since day one. There is very little I can do as far as venting and it is really restricting my grows. Right now I run 2 600's in a 8x4x6.5. I run 2x 4 site undercurrent systems(one of the reservoirs sits outside the tent. I use leds on my reef tanks and love them and have for years. My question is what lights could I purchase or build that would be equal to or even better then my 600's. I have built a few real nice multichannel disable LEDs before.

Keep in mind that Area 51 will give you a volume discount. But maybe if you aren't sold on them yet, experiment with one right now if you can. Then if you like it, buy some more in March when you open up. There's a user named "The Dawg" who got 8 oz using one Area 51 SGS-160. Here's his thread.
