HI guys, like the title states i'm new to led lighting and need help with what i need to buy. I am planning to build 4 panels.
Each panel will consist of:
4 cobs (cxb3070 3000k or bridgelux vero v2 4000k)
1 5.886"x42" heatsink (heatsink usa)
1 meanwell hlg-185h-c1400b (jameco)
4 cob holders or pico-ezmates
thermal paste
18awg wire
misc parts

If this setup is not ideal, can you guys please help me get on the right path? I am planning to run 4 panels in a 10x10 area. I am leaning more towards the vero to save some money but is that a wise idea? Should i go with active cooling instead of passive cooling? Should i add a fan or two on my heatsink for added security?

Always do active cooling. At 42" & 1400 ma though, you should be good passively. But I'd throw 2 140mm fans on each bar. Use an apv12-12 to run them. They're only $5.

Thanks for the heads up Airwalker. I will add two fans to it. I feel like i don't have enough lighting for a 10x10 area. What do you think? Do you have any experience with these cobs? which one would you use?

I also was thinking that. 10x10 will honestly need more if I was you, I'd just go with 48" heatsinks with 5 on each and do 6 bars. And they work great! I assume there's not much of a budget I'd you were gonna do 16 cobs but you need more like 30. Haha. But I'd hang them in 2 rows of 3.

Or maybe you could do 8 with 4 each at 42". But each should have its own hlg240h-c1400b or lgsu250-1400d so you can run 5 cobs if you want later in each but just use it for 4. Might be a better spread honestly

Hey everyone I currently run a 4x4 with a 600 watt hid and a 2x4 with a 4 ft long 6 tube t5 with 6700k bulbs. I plan to use the 2x4 to veg and I want to add another 4x4 to flower in. I want to go with a nice diy led light kit for a 4x4 area. I'm willing to spend for a good product so any links or website names are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Damn....just saw this thread now even though I yesterday bought PlatinumLED P4-XML2 light. Anybody with experience from that light? Going to use it in a 3x3 grow tent and max 4 plants per grow!

it will work, I would look around for another light to add for the flip, (flowering) at some point if you continue to grow, your light platforms will evolve with you.

Has anyone used Vipar Spectra before? Im trying to light 4 plants in a 4x4 gorilla tent. Would this be enough coverage and the correct spectrum? I would idealily want a Growmau5 COB kit but thats too out of my price range at this time to have 8 in the tent. This is going to be my first indoor grow so im looking to find some advice.

No, and for good reason. for that money there is better out there. what is your budget?

But since the tent isn't that large, you mean I will have to switch out the lights when flowering? From what i've read it has dual spectrum (blue+red) so won't it just be overkill using 2 lights?

no, you keeping running the light you had in VEG and add another light to increase PPFD (Photosynthetically active radiation) plants benefit from more light in flower.

no overkill, you can use a 1000 HPS in a 4x4. keeping your environment in check, is the biggest problem when you have big lights. (in a 4x4)

Ah you meant like that, well, I don't really see how i'm going to place a 400W hps (in a cool tube) with the LED light in the same space....Would be nice but I can't really see it happening in that tent.

look at this guy, https://www.rollitup.org/t/heavenbright-mini-mo-thread.900524/

you got room, a 400hps is tiny, if you see it in person. if you get a cool tube (more$$) they are even smaller then a cooled case style reflector.

I personally don't like the dual spec lights: veg/flower settings, I would have both veg and flower on: on the flip.

4x4 may seem small, but its a lot to cover well the higher the light gets. most light base basic standards on a 4x4.

I have no doubt you can, run from veg to flower with the light you have. but, you will catch the bug and want more.

Sure but I think you might've missed that i'm running a 3x3 tent, not a 4x4 :) So i'm running 90x90cm which is quite a bit far off from 120x120 :)

But yeah, been thinking if you should run veg and flower led's at the same time throughout the grow cycle. Haven't seen much discussion about it.
