I've used both mylar and white plastic. The mylar is extremely prone to tearing, whereas the white plastic can take a beating. My two cents...
I use diamond mylar and it's ok and I do agree about the fact that it can easily rip but I personally haven't had any problems with it yet

The simple answer is no.
Four XGS's will replace a 1000W HPS, so that should give you some kind of guideline in term of what to expect.
It all depends on your budget and the yield you want.
Good luck.
Thank you for the response! I guess I'll be trying for four lights then, unless it seems like overkill for my cabinet.

2x5 is kind of an odd area. You'll probably be best off with two units. Of the ones you listed, I would recommend the advancedled or the California lightworks.

my mistake, 2x4x8 . and would I still need 2 lights? and would the uvb bulbs be a worry at all, would it burn the plants?

One could offer decent coverage in a 2x4. That's how I started with leds, in a 2x4 closet with a 180a led from advanced. I eventually added in another led next to it but got good results with just the one. With the solarstorm you only run the UV bulbs during the final couple weeks so as long as you have headroom it shouldn't do any damage

Oh ok, that's good. Haha there you go :bigjoint: and would I be able to leave them on for a full 12 hours? I read something that it should only be on for a couple?? not sure bout that. BTW how much better results did you get when you added another? or did you inc. crop size as well?

Starting my first grow soon. Will be done in a 2x2.5x6 tent. Having trouble making my final decision

2 Hans Panels (65 or 80 watt?)
XGS-190
SGS-160

These are all similar in cost, so that is of no issue. Just want the best option possible. I am concerned the XGS-190 running on 190 watts would be too much, but if I'm running it at 130 full cycle would it be more beneficial to get the full power of the SGS-160?

Thanks for any input.

I believe the A51 SGS-160 would be the best fit for your cabinet.
Hans is good, but best for smaller plants, under 3 ft. tall.
Good luck :)

Hi all! I'm extremely new to led like I have never used them ever but have always wanted to. My problem is that I don't wanna drop a $500 rent payment on just lights is there a way to light my grow box with out spending a fortune or is one of those "if you can't afford it don't bother things?" I might be able to fork out a couple hundred at the most, if it helps my grow box floor space is about 3.5sq feet and about 32 inches high.

thank you my fellow growers, Blackdeth

The best LED choice for you, given your budget, and size of your grow space, is the Hans Panel.
It'll flower a 2x2 area, cost around $250, and only uses 65 watts.

Go with 2 lamps for versatility.
If you want the CLW lamps, 2 of their newest ones would work; http://hydrobuilder.com/solarflare-220w-led-grow-light-bloom-booster.html
I like Advanced lamps also. 2 DS200s or 2 of the DS XML150s would kick serious ass in there.
And of course, there's Area51. 2 sgs-160s. It don't get much better than that for now. http://a51led.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=180

Thanks Bad Karma that sounds perfect for my application! I'm already using almost twice that much power with my hps and cfl combo

Bad Karma, your response brings up another question that I have. In my 4' x 4' cabinet, which I plan to use for both veg and bloom, would I be better off with four XGS-190? Or does it make more sense to have two SGS-160 for some added red light + two XGS-190?

Bicit- I would take a serious read of Bridgelux's application note 'AN30: Effective Thermal Management of Bridgelux Vero LED Arrays' prior to attempting to run 2.2A thru that module. It will get very, very hot at these current levels. Ensure you use the correct type of power supply for LED's when operating at these current levels- i.e., constant current LED drivers- not regular constant voltage type power supplies.

Hello everyone :-P

Id like to ask for your help! Im starting a small grow soon, and would like to use LED lights instead of HID/HPS. I have been looking at the lights offered by Blackstar LED (http://www.lighthousehydro.com/led-grow-lights.html?dir=asc&order=price), and am a little overwhelmed.

I dont need anything massive as ill only be growing two or three plants at a time, or a few really small ones, but im still not sure which would fit best for me. I was thinking about getting a single 240 watt light and using it from start to finish. Is this possible?

Also, what is the difference between the lights that say HO and UV? I assume UV means ultra violet, but im not sure what the HO might stand for.

Anyhow, do you veteran growers think a single 240 might do ok for a small time grow like mine? Not looking for anything amazing, just enough to take my ladies from start to finish so I can share them with my family.

Thanks!

*edit*

Also came across the DS XML 150W (http://www.advancedledlights.com/3w-led-grow-lights/new-diamond-series-xml-10w-cree-xml/), and am curious to see if the 10W LED bulbs make much of a difference compared to the 3W's everyone seems to have? Im sure I could put up the money for a single DS XML 150W if it would be worth it for my grow.
