I have my setup dialed in otherwise. Maybe I can sell my hps to put money towards the led setup
You can use Vero 29 and would be $200 cheaper
Thanks @REALSTYLES I'm gonna do some more research. Side note I have 2 tents: 5x2 but its PVC panda film kinda shabby for flower and nice Apollo 3x2 for veg. So I might scrap the big tent and flower in 3x2 with a new Cree diy led. My thought process is that I could get by even cheaper but also fill the 3x2 tent with 1-3 good size plants in 3 gal. smart pots

I emailed the people at Tasty LED and they recommended I get 2 x T2-2100s for my 3' x 3' tent. That puts me at about $720. At this point I've abandoned my idea of a budget, but at the same time I don't want to go broke buying one. I figure the light is just too important to skimp on. My question to you fine folks is at this price am I getting the best bang for my buck? Or would I find better yields with a cheaper HPS light setup? My main reason for looking at LEDs is that I've read they're ideal for SOG and SCROG grows.

And while I have your attention, any thoughts on Platinum LED lights (https://platinumgrowlights.com)? I was looking at the P4-XML2 as well.

Tasty is a far better light and the price is very reasonable. Rahz is a fixture here and as the owner of Tasty, is able to answer any question. tasty does use extremely high quality components made in USA.

If money is tight, just get one to start with. Either do a whole run with it or get some plants started and get the second light a week or 2 into flowering.
Although money is tight, I'd rather buy it right from the get go. A week ago I was about to buy a made in China LED! I just want to make sure that whatever I do spend is smart spending. I'd hate to try and save a few bucks and end up with something that cripples my yield or needs replacing.

Thank you for the input! So I take it that these are good quality LEDs?

Do you think it would be possible to run ->THIS-< COB fixture in a Homebox Evolution Q30 tent? It's 30x30x60cm (1 square foot?).

I know 180 watts of COB is too much, but that specific light has a dimmer function, would the light work if I dimmed it down to 50%?

18x22x7.5 add a few inches on top of Lamp for the fan. Even 50% power 90 watts is too much. Need to be able to dim to 15% -30%

We are having a cup for 30x30x60cm or 12*12*24in here. You can join once u figure out your Lamp.

In a 3x2 flower tent, Planning to do four Cree cxb3590, two 5.88" w heatsinks (what length?), 1 hlg-185h-c1400 driver.
Only question: is purchasing some sort of mounting bracket or platform necessary, or can I hang them up from the heatsinks?

Hello everyone I've been thinking about going LED. I want to get an estimate on how much it will cost to make 3 grow lights that will cover a 5x5 area each to replace my 3 x 1000 watt hps lights and be able to grow plants just as fast and yield just as much. I looked into it a few months ago and was going to go with some cree cobs, not sure which ones and if they are still the best ones available? Someone help me.

Just ordered two 5.886" heatsinks 21" long, and a hlg-185h-c1400. When alibaba responds I'll order 4 Cree cxb 3590. This setup sound good for 3x2' to you guys?

Hey guys, thinking about slowly getting into the COB world. Was planning on switching all my lights I used to run to the 3070s last year but got sick and haven't been doing any growing lately but now that I am looking to get back into it a little I am thinking about switching out for COBS a little at a time. But now it looks like the CXB3590s are the way to go for sure. I would prefer to go as efficient as I can afford which is probably somewhere around either 1050 or 1400ma on the 36V versions. I don't think I have seen anyone running their CXB3590s at 1050, usually seems like its 1400ma with the rare person running at 700ma. But to me 1050 seems like a great compromise?

What worries me is if I buy something now, will it be outdated in a couple months.... It seems like everything is just moving forward so quickly its crazy. Which of course is a good thing, just hard to know when and what to buy. I would love to wait for the DB or DD bin to come out but does anyone have any idea when that could be? Something else I haven't read yet is how does say a 4000 DB compare to a 3500 CD for flowering? Is the DBs efficiency worth the difference in the spectrum change ? And it seems like everyone is using the 3500k for flowering and if I remember correctly last year everyone was going for the 3000k. Has it been proven that the 3500k works best for flowering? And what works best for Veg for everyone 5000k?

For right now I was thinking about just getting 4-5 CXB3590 CD and run them at 1400ma for 56% efficiency to try out and get my toes wet. Then over time if I start growing like I used to - possibly build a lot more. I used to average .7-.8 GPW with HPS using organic soil so I am hoping to achieve somewhere around 1.3GPW with the COBs so that 600w of COBs can replace 1000w HPS. Seems fairly reasonable I would think and make it worth doing in the long run.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get an idea of what I should buy, or if I wait how long to wait in order to get the next step up in bins. Thanks guys for any input.

I'll be at 2.5 x 2.5 with 6 3070's and two 185-1400 with a dimmer. :-)
Nice, I made the cxb3590 order with chip loks. So everything is now on the way. Upgrading from 150w HPS
@DoctorFrost i just bought a popular setup listed about 3 posts previous, you should check out that combo as it is common for people who are just starting diy LEDs

TJ_Baba thanks for the tip, that is probably what I will end up doing is a setup almost identical to that. Was just wondering if anyone else perhaps Supra could answer the couple other questions I had.

-Like what is the best option to go with out of a 3500k CD vs 4000k DB for flowering?
-And if 3500k is better then 3000k for flowering?
-And any ideas when the 3500K DBs will be released?

And to nxsov180db, I am not an expert on COBs as you can tell but I wonder why you chose the Vero29s over the CXB3590s? Its just my opinion, but if you are going to upgrade from HPS then you should really upgrade enough to tell a big difference since you will probably keep the setup for a long time. If you go with vero29s now, then in a couple years you will probably just want to upgrade to the CXB3590s or whatever else is hot at the time. With that many lights you should be able to pay the COBs off in no time and they'd pay for themselves with the extra efficiency and less heat. I don't know much about the Veros but if it is the same Vero29 model that is in the efficiency spreadsheet that means at 1050ma it'd be 42% efficient. That is definitely a step up from HPS but not a huge step up like the CXB3590s in my opinion. Now get the Cxb3590 at 1400ma that is 56% efficient, and 50watts each. I understand they probably cost a little more but they are not crazy expensive or anything and is a very good compromise between cheap and expensive setups. I have it figured in my mind that somewhere around 600 watts of top bin LEDs are the same as 1000w HPS but someone like Supra could tell you better.
