if seeds crack when you squeeze them does that mean there bad?

i got a pack of sensi skunk orig breeder packs i opened it and squeezed a seed and it cracked in my fingertips but still had the white shit inside does that mean these seeds are bad will they even germ? gonna try and germ two and see if they pop

Sounds like you broke a perfectly good seed, they SHOULD have white stuff inside

yeah i know it should but ive squeezed them before and they never crack and ive been told if they crack in your fingertips there bad seeds thats why i was wondering why did it crack? and still have the white stuff inside i guess it just means it has a weak shell and woulda germinated quickly anyway kinda bummed now that poor seed is never gonna be able to grow into a nice beautiful plant

Not true I have had white seeds sprout before that were really premature. The only way to tell if a seed is good is to germinate it. I never got where this came from.

Why would your fingers mushing a seed be a good way to tell if it is viable?

Any seed could crack if you squeeze it hard enough.

I don't think the fact that a particular seed is easier than usual to crack necessarily means that it won't germinate. Some seed types do have thin shells are are relatively easy to crack/crush.

My answer is the only way to know for sure if they'll germinate is to try to germinate them!

Good question. Its probably a good way to render a seed NON-viable!

I think the question here is, "Short of trying to germinate it, is there any good way to determine if a seed is viable"?

I think the answer to that is "no".

Clues that indicate that a seed may be viable include: Maturity (dark color, stripes, large size) and intact shell, but these things aren't absolute. Small seeds and immature ones can still germinate, and of course perfect looking seeds that have been stored badly and are old may not.

if you can crush a seed with minimal pressure that seed was most likely a dud. a healthy viable seed shouldn't even crush with moderate pressure against a tabletop. you should REALLY have to squeeze to crush a healthy seed.
