lol I literally just made an account to respond to this, nearly a decade late - all you guys are wrong - OP's boyfriend/stoner mentor is correct. I'm literally a botanist working on my undergrad. Only reason why I went through the trouble to make an account and post is the hopes someone else doesn't come across this misinformation, doubting any of you will read this bump. But please - don't be so confident with info you are so wrong about.

As for OP - yes it will grow back. Yes this method can increase yield.
(Doesn't quite resemble a tomato but I get the reference ) Google "main-lining" growing technique.
Brush up on nodes/cola.
Sheesh Louise I get this was 08 but do a little research before you guys give false advice on posts .
Only way it will maximize yields is if your plants are overgrowing your environment. Grow plants to your environment and no trimming is needed. Only thing I cut back, minimally, is the inner canopy going into flower for better airflow through the plant. Rock hard buds 2.5+ft into my canopy. I would think someone in school for botany would realize defoliation is just a crutch for poor environmental control.

It wasn't really specified. Sounded to me like they were cutting the new shoot growth at the node.
correct.....but ..old man dad grower...... strange sativa grow likely......dad told him to cut those off... just a guess, but..

any damage to a plant will cause hormones to surge through with messages of attack and grow, to grow more nodes to ensure amore flowers to replace possible damaged nodes and ultimately more seeds for survival. cytokines and auxins they called.
thats why topping/pinching/crushing/bending causes more side chutes for a bushier experience in veg

There is a time and a place for trimming leaves.
Let me demonstrate an example.
You forgot to water your plants in coco, the coco nearly completely dried out and burned the tips of the roots back a bit.
Trust me, it won't be able to deal with the same amount of water as before. In the canopy, new leaves are growing and the surface area increases, along with transpiration, heck, even if it stays the same, the ratio of transpiration vs uptake is still skewed by the root damage... this is a good time to trim a few leaves...

why is everyone giving this woman wrong advice. Isnt this supposed to be a forum of growers. I think if you aren't 100 percent sure you shouldn't say anything at all stop gving people false info. Who says don't cut anything until harvest? it sounds like she was talking about mainline or topping OR having a male plant and I'm a new grower and I even know that. If you just let the plant grow on its own without pruning the leaves and training your plant with topping or lst or supercropping etc. your plant isn't going to yield nearly as much. Your bf knows what hes doing, ignore all the noobs on here.

Who are you and what are your qualifications? Been growing for a whole two weeks and gonna call other noobs and you know better? Either a troll, a moron, or both. If you hadn't noticed the woman you're concerned about posted this thread a decade ago.

Grow up. There is no need for being disrespectful to the RIU members. You started it by calling people who gave sound advice noobs. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. A little bit of tact can go a long way.

a noob is a newbie. and the advice they were giving was not sound. I have studied plants for over 20 years, im not jus talking shit out of my ass. and im not the only person on here that is saying that people are giving wrong advice. The only other guy on here that gave the right Advice was a botanist lol and he says he made his account just to right the wrongs and i see you messaged a music video on his comment as well. it looks like your the troll buddy.

and even more than that, the original poster was either a troll to begin with, or someone who didn't know what they were talking about, and from her "explanation" ...you still don't know exactly what shes talking about, so how the hell can anyone be doing more than guessing?

SO IGNORANT. how do you think i found this thread. from a google search. You dont think other people are going to read this thread? all because it was written ten years ago does not mean it wont rank on the search engines. it actually means itll probably rank higher since its been online for so long. SOOOOOO the reason i gave my advice was for people who read these threads for advice. oh my goodness just stop.
