Idlehands closet grow / test...........

This would be my second grow. My first grow wasn't great, but wasn't a total waste either. The smoke from it was great and in the future I will be trying to purchase some seeds when I have better funds.

My first grow.
Gone Hermie.

There seems to be debate on whether or not the seeds from my first grow will be hermie or female so I germed three seeds. So we will see what happens. I have eliminated light leaks from my veg area/box and have improved my soil mixture. I think it went hermie because I transplanted it late and had numerous light leaks. The male flowers were only on the lower half and didnt start showing up until I transplanted it into a bigger pot for the 3rd time. I will wait till these show sex before transplanting.

Soil Mixture - 2 parts inexpensive top soil, 1 part vermiculite, 1 part perlite.

Fertilizer - right now I am using just a diluted mixture of Greenlight starter solution. 5-15-5, used at half strength. I will be upgrading to some better quality fertilizers later.

Yeast, sugar CO2 generator, via 2 liter bottle.

Lighting
1 - 17 watt fluorescent tube grow light - 4200k
2 - 26 watt cfl - 100 watt equivalent - 6500k
1 - 20 watt cfl - 75 watt equivalent - 2700k

I will redoing the ventilation because right now I just have a rigged fan. The fan is too strong/ big so I created a slotted box that is mounted to the top of my veg box to baffle the air and distribute the airflow evenly instead of just blasting across one plant.

I am thinking of using Uncle Bens topping technique, but I am open to other ideas is others think that something else would give me better results.

Seeds were germed in paper towel on xmas and transplanted in soil on 12-27-09.

The following pics are from today (01-03-10). The last 2 are from the mother/father, lol, a few weeks before I harvested it.

Comments, suggestions welcome. Help me out! Thanks

:fire:Subscribed. Curious to see how your hermied seeds will turn out! I've heard high hopes of females and threats of hermies. Good Luck! Best Wishes!!!

Also, Nice nipple slip on that bud shot ;)

Any recommendations on nutes for veg that would available at lowes, home depot etc..? I am thinking of using Greenlight superbloom (12-55-6 w/ chileated iron) for flowering. What are good N-P-K numbers for a veg fert? Thanks

Someone correct me if im wrong, but i think that your supposed to have the co2 tube more towards the stem and soil. :/ Just trying to give some help!

Actually I am pretty sure that the plants absorb CO2 from the stomata which is located on the underside of the leaves. I could be wrong but that was my understanding.

Regardless if it's an enclosed environment with circulation it should circulate I would hope :)

Quick Update:

Nothing new to report, a couple updated pics to follow. One plant looks like it has a mildy mutated leaf, but im not worried bout that. I am concerned that the air is too dry and really dont want to add a humidifier so I just mist lightly a couple time a day right now.

Any suggestions for cheap/ easy way to increase humidity?
Only thing i have heard of to increase humidity is to places some cups of water in there
Yeah, thats what Im gonna do for now. I am gonna pick up a cheap thermometer/hygrometer from walmart soon. They also have a compact personal humidifier that I may pick up in the future.

What would the ideal humidity level be?

Wow. It's wierd to see someone else who grew out their hermie plant. I'm gettin ready to cut my hermie down in less than a week cuz Im movin to a new house. But I knew ut was hermie and just decided to let it grow and see what happens. I hit some white widow I'm gonna start on the 15th. I am curious tho if seeds are feminized. I thought about turnin one of my white widow plants hermie so I can get the seeds. But not sure I they will be feminized or not. In my opinion. I think they will be feminized. I just think that they're mire succeptable to stress and to turn hermie.

yeaaa.. cups/bowls of water will deff work to increase the humidity.. it works for me. and the ideal humidity level during veg should be 40%-60%... i like it to be right in the middle at 50%

OK question. I am suddenly getting white deposits on the leaves. Looks similar to salt deposits or something of that nature. What could this be? Could this cause a problem? What can I do to remedy this? Thanks

If your misting them with water, thats where it dried up at, it leaves behind some minerals (salts or calcium, can't remember, not harmful) they can be washed out off with water if it bothers you.

OK, I will post some pics later. I think I burned them. I added a 1/4 strength Greenlight starter solution to just one watering and the next day they looked bad. I have since just using straight water and they are starting to look better. I am getting samples of Dutch Master, Dutch Nutrient Formula, Botanicare, and BioBizz. I am not sure what products each company is sending me, but I know that it will at least contain veg and bloom formulas. I am going to try 3 different ones to see which have the better results. This will not be any kind of controlled nute test or anything because I plan on topping one and possible fimming another. We shall see. I cant wait to get some real nutes, will post pics of them when they get here as well.

OK time for pics. Like I said they are recovering right now from suspected nute burn. the leaves were "swollen" looking and ended up with some of the leaves dying/turning brown. If the pics show something else please let me know what you think. Sorry I suck at taking pictures, especially when I'm baked, they looked focused when I took them lol. :dunce::bigjoint:
