im going through some issues over here with my baby girls. the real problem is ive only grew a few times, 2 plants at a time and im not keen to optimum grow conditions for new borns. i would really appreciate if someone could post ideal conditions for seedlings and week 1-2 plants. temp? humidity? light intensity? and when is the right time to take them out of the humidity dome? what sort of medium have you found to work best for seedlings? and finally.. when do u begin feeding nutes?

thank you so much in advance, any advice/feedback is VERY VERY much appreciated. i have already lost 2 babies (blue cheese, sensi star) and they werent even 3 days old yet :' (

only ones still left are tangerine dream (hasnt sprouted) and caramelo (>1 in.) so any advice on keeping these ones alive is greatly apprecaited!!! PEACE

Here is how I care for seedlings. As soon as the seedling punches through the soil, remove them from the tent. I start them under a 4 bulb 4 foot T8 fixture with the light about 6 to 8 inches for the first few days then lower it to about 4 inches. Temp is around 75 F. Humidity is around 75%. I live in a very very very humid location so I can't control this too well.

I start them in jiffy cube then transfer it to a 4 inch rockwool cube. For the first 3 weeks, nothing but low ppm water. Then, start feeding it with a weak solution. I use Root 66 since it is a 1-1-1. Then just start feeding her what she wants from there. Take it slow on feeding at first.

Before long, she will be telling you what she wants and how much she wants with a little exp. This is how I do it so this isn't chiseled in stone but it is a good guildline to go by. Works for me. Either way, good luck!

I just read a bunch of stuff on newborns- never cracked a seed straight up before and I got some expensive seeds, so I'm a bit boned up on the gospel. I do believe that the primary root is pretty inefficient in picking up nutes so you may presoak your rockwool in start charge. In fact if you look at commercial products you will see "start charge" on soil mixes for seedlings, and the Oasis cube has the start charge as well (but it isn't listed anywhere). Rockwool is known for not havin' jack in it.

So i went and scoured the earth for start charge and being that i live in weedhead central in Humboldt county I was surprised to see that nobody knew shit about shit on the subject. Many "never heard of such a thing." Others just say dilute out a cheap nute. I don't disagree, and I've seen commercial ops use Cutting Edge Micro at a diluted rate. I found literal "start charges" -- only two commercially available. Formulex and Canna Start. I chose Canna Start but I ran into some bullshit with it- you can check my post out on it. It's incredibly acidic but I adjusted the pH and soaked my rockwool in it. At 1.0 microsiemens concentration your lil' bean will be happy. Any slowing down in the germ and seedling stage is a bad bad thing so I went ahead and autoclaved my whole shit and disinfected the sead coat which has a lot of gabbagoo on it from the mom usually. Fighting the microbes slows the thing down.

When it comes to seed starts I believe that 75F is a great temp and humidity could optimally be 100% but people worry about fungus. I 'clave sterilized the cubes and disinfected the seed coat so I'm capping my whole scene in a polypropylene chinese food container (also 'claved) and letting that little bugger jump. Don't want to step on toes but I just had to do the textbook research on the germ process and I think that a start charge at 1.0 microsiemens will only be a good thing. I'll let you know if I kill my $20 seeds. Maybe that shows my stupidity... lol. Looking for a stud for breeding.

hey there. thanks for your input as well. i have a huge temp problem in my closet tho. temps are between 90-100 w lights on and 78-85 w the lights off. its a smaller sized space. bout 2x4x5 (deep, wide, tall) so not many cubic feet. im using a 400w MH and im ATTEMPTING to vent w a 80 CFM intake and 160 CFM outtake but its clearly not working well. im very frustrated at this point actually. but the reason i mention this is because this is where i have my babies. they're under 3 CFL's 24w(100w equiv.) in the corner of the closet ... should i pull them out of there? its 94 currently. i really have nowhere else to put them but i dont want them to die :' (

Sooo as a general rule 83 degrees is about the point of no return for all stages for cannabis. Yes you can find some organic acids that aide in heat stress but will stunt growth as well. Nothing should be alive in there at 94 degrees except for perhaps spider mites. Pull the babies out of there. Might consider closing up shop entirely at that temperature. I don't know what temp is running outside your spot but your venting doesn't seem to be working so well. Consider a room intake on a filter as well. You got a kill room on your hands presently. If you don't want to spend money you can get some power tools out and gut all of your insulation. I did that when i ran a micro room and after a weekend of sheetrock work I was happy with my decision each and every cycle thereafter.

That's waaaaay too hot. Marijuana is like you. If you don't like being stuffed into a 95 degree closet, then they surely will not. Range I shoot for is 75 with lights on 65 with lights off. You are burning them alive in that type of heat.

Edit* Drewbot beat me to it!

FUCK dude omg idk what im going to do. i dont understand why my vent system i set up isnt working efficiently as it should. its only 50 degrees outside right now! (11:30pm) .. im running 80 CFM intake through the bottom of the room, and 160 CFM out through the top. the actual vent duct that is out-taking air is even hanging right by the lamp. i know these arnt the most powerful in line fans but my grown room is only 2x4x5 ?? 40 cubic feet. i also have a small fan blowing in the room as well. BUT ITS STILL OVER 90!!! WTF?? how is this possible? is 400w MH just TOO MUCH HEAT for my space? or ANY other suggestions at all ???

heres some pics if you care to see. the older plant you see is an unknown bagseed strain that hasnt sex'd yet. im planning on switching it very soon to 12-12 and finding out. but that plant is 11 in right now. day 25. and has been in that heat since day one : / .. do u think it would be doing much better in a cooler temp? lol (of course right?) but humor me.

Might want to shut it down till you can get the heat issue taken care of. If you are hitting temps like that now, think of what it is going to be like in the summer.

High heat will stress the plant possibly making it throw out nanners. Happened with a friend of mine. + 90 the last few weeks of flower and he got some nanners.

what do you recommend for my situation? greater vent fans? a/c in there? smaller light ?

obviously that's a micro mini mini room and I'm chock full of opinions but you should strongly consider going t5. Even with 1/4 light flux output if the temp were down in the 70's you will actually be growing something for a change. A DUCTED hood with glass would help on that MH.

If you are drawing in 50 degree air and your room is what 40 cu ft? an 80 CFM fan blowing 50 degrees is exchanging the room twice in a minute. There is something wrong here.... very wrong. You should be leveling off at 60 degrees or so with that much exchange. Did you actually flip one of the fans in the wrong direction? Push-push or pull-pull? Something is way way off.

hey man i appreciate your concern and help here,
naw im not exchanging air from outside of my house. sorry if i misspoke. the temps outside are 50 but im actually exchanging air from my actual room. my room is a decent size. 20'x15'. and i got windows on adjacent sides both open a decent amount, along with a nice tall 18'' oscillating fan in here. so essentially what im saying is the air in my room still has a healthy temperature and air flow. although i agree, direct exchange from outside (especially now) would be optimal. but the degree of conspicuouscy (word? maybe.) lmao, is too high for me at the moment to have ventilation duct secured to the window sile, running from my closet. lol.

buuuuuuuuuutt .... I HAVE FAILED TO MENTION A KEY DETAIL. the air in that space will drop to BELOW 20% RH within 60-90min with only the fans going. i had to get a humidifier in there because i couldnt bare seeing 16% RH in there. BUT. we only have a fucccking warm air humidifier at the moment. its a nice one and will run on just water for up to 24 hrs before a refill... but its HOT mist. i keep it on low but of course this still raises the temperature several degrees. degrees i DONT need right now. how do you control your grow rooms hum. drew?

also though.. i side with your opinion on the T-5's . but alot more so with the idea of investing a nicer dollar on a quality DUCTED reflector. ideally glass as you mentioned. although i believe in T-5's to an extent, im too afraid to step away from all these lumens i have in the 400w. ALLLTHOUUGGGH, interestingly enough i have been spending the night reading a quite impressive thread here on a guy who is growing LED style using various designs and spectrums of the T-5's. to tell the truth the thread is blowing me away. incredible information in there check it out if you havent seen it already. ive been reading it like 90 min. lol

.. what do u think about what i was just saying tho? lmaoo
